67 yo female - quiet, calm, active, I enjoy solitude but am an enthusiastic house/pet sitter :) I want to see some of the world and share in your locale, culture, and language :)

About this sitter

Young-at-heart, healthy female; recently retired, and want to see some of the world while I still can! I'm from the upper Midwest in the U.S. and have lived a typical, mainstream existence (work, work, work - although I don't have a lot to show for that!) but I managed to have a few adventures along the way (assistant manager at an art gallery/gift shop in Denali, Alaska; professional caregiver at U.S. army hospital in Killeen, Texas; and a student participant in a medical mission to El Salvador). I have multiple talents, skills and knowledge from a plethora of jobs to include:animal care and welfare, human healthcare, garden center, warehouse, office, retail, tourism, hospitality, and shipping....just to name a few :) I'm a self sufficient, self starter, independent, resourceful, no-nonsense person (non smoker, social drinker, drug-free) who likes to help wherever I can and doesn't need to be asked to perform work or duties. I like to stay active and try to keep fit and healthy by walking outdoors, bicycling, and eating an organic plant-based diet. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am open to new experiences; I love animals, nature, and quiet places (cemeteries, woods, meadows) and delight in the chance sighting of birds, bugs, and critters :) I also savor the comfort and routine of home and love nothing better than to curl up with a furry friend, or just sit and listen to birdsong and try to identify their calls. I'm flexible with the length of sits (short vs long) but enjoy being in one place for a while to see the same faces (animal and human) every day so I can establish friendships :)

Why they want to house sit

To me, house/pet sitting is the physical exchange of kindness, trust, caring, and goodwill that the world is so in need of, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the MMH community in exemplifying that. As such, I would honor and respect that with all that I am, and care for what is yours (especially your furry family members!) and treat them like they were my own. I like to have a purpose to my day so a daily routine and tasks are very welcome and, as a slow traveler, I would much rather experience local life because I'm truly a homebody at heart :) To be able to share my time with (and care for) 4-legged friends, makes my life more enriched....and hopefully theirs, too! I'd love to sit for you and your pets and give you the peace of mind your home and best friends are well looked after :)

Their experience

My last sitting experiences were twenty years ago when I was younger, and included cats, dogs, (some horses and chickens). I'm partial to cats as I've shared my life with my own three lovely cats (see photo)....sadly, they each passed on from individual medical complications. I miss them every day :( As I've gotten older, I've helped to care for my aging/dying parents (who I also miss every day). But as a younger woman, I have worked on a dairy farm as a hired hand, as a veterinary assistant in a clinic, attendant at a humane society, and I did some volunteering at a farm animal sanctuary. I truly, TRULY love animals - their trust and unconditional love is a gift! And most days I think they're smarter than humans :) I love learning from them, trying to connect to their intelligence, playing with them, and especially watching their antics :) Because I had to do it with my own cats, I'm also comfortable giving medications, if needed. I've been an apartment dweller all my life and am adaptable to different situations - I strive to be organized, clean, quiet, and respectful of my neighbors.

What can they bring to the assignment

I bring a mature-but-light-hearted, playful, and compassionate demeanor; a responsibility and committment to the task, and respect and kindness for all. Of course, I will treat your home and pets as if they were my own, and would be honored to care for them and shower them with love (if they let me). I'm trustworthy, reliable, and dependable; quiet, clean, and organized (if not a bit methodical :) and a good housekeeper.
