About this sitter
We are experienced house sitters and we first started house/pet sitting in 2010.
I am a retired registered nurse and my last job was a Retirement Village Manager which holds me in good stead when caring for peoples homes. I enjoy reading, arts and crafts particularly tapestry and knitting and have a huge interest in genealogy. My husband is a retired engineer. Since retiring he has completed his degree in accountancy with first class honours. This was something he started back in the early 90's but he was unable to finish the course for personal reasons. These days he keeps occupied with studying Calculus and oil painting.
We live in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and enjoy hiking with our local hiking group . We meet once a week and experience 5-7 mile walks all around North Yorkshire.
Why they want to house sit
Being experienced travellers to many countries we are adaptable to different environments and cultures and we enjoy 'living as locals'. Our commitment to caring for peoples houses, gardens and pets is the perfect pursuit for us because we love animals but our current life situation does not allow us to have pets at this time. We especially love cats and dogs and walking is how we keep fit and active. House sitting gives us the opportunity to visit new interesting places that we might not otherwise have considered. We have a lot to offer a home owner through our experience of owning homes and caring pets.

We have used several house sitting websites over the years including housecarers.com, mindmyhouse.com for several years previously and more lately TrustedHousesitters.com Previous House sits have been in UK, France, Ireland, Belgium and Australia and have included a wide variety of animals requiring our care: cats, dogs, chickens,llamas, cockatiel to name a few. Some had acreage and gardens which we also tended. We have extensive experience in home maintenance particularly pools, hot tubs, lawn and gardens and coordinating trades people. All our house sit owners are happy to give positive references and we have been given the opportunity to do return assignments for them.
What can they bring to the assignment
In a nutshell, we are both non-smokers, responsible, fit and active, with many skills, a love of animals and gardens and heaps of experience between us and can put our hands to most things. We have a flexible schedule and adaptable to many situations. MOST importantly we will treat your home and pets as we would our own--lovingly.We have our own transport.

Snap them up
If Janet and Owen offer to sit for you, I suggest that you snap them up straight away! We left our two dogs and large garden in their care for two weeks and couldn't be happier with the way things were looked after. We found Janet and Owen to be relaxed and friendly but also highly organised and meticulous. The dogs took to them both immediately and barely noticed that we were leaving them. It was lovely to see photos of them looking happy and relaxed in the garden with Owen. The house was immaculate on our return, the garden and greenhouse too. Janet and Owen are genuinely lovely people who clearly care about property and animals left in their charge. We would welcome them back anytime.

Fantastic
Janet and Owen were fantastic from the first contact. As this was my first experience of using sitters I was unsure what to expect. Janet and Owen came to visit, as they were relatively local to us, before the housesit to meet the cats and see the cottage. It was good to know that they were experienced sitters and put us at ease. We had good communication while we were away and the house was spotless on our return. Spud, Saffy and Ben seemed very settled, which was fantastic given that we had only moved house 2 weeks earlier. Janet was exceptional . Just arrived, settled in made a fuss of the dog and we went away totally comfortable leaving our dog and house in her care. She sent us updates and lovely pictures. When we got back every thing was beautifully clean and tidy, I cant recommend her enough.

The best sitters I have had
Janet and Owen were quite the best sitters I have had over 8 years. They were exactly what was required; they looked after my little dog extremely well and returned my house in better condition than I have ever seen it!! Tilly was very happy and sorry to see them go. She was also well groomed and looking fit. She had clearly been very well looked after. My house was immaculate, in fact so tidy that it took me time to find things again! They are most welcome to come back and sit again; both Tilly and I would welcome them with open arms. We wish them the best of times in their upcoming trip to Australia.

Brilliant house-sitters
Janet and Owen were brilliant house-sitters. Penny and the chickens loved being cared for by them and the house was left beautiful and clean. Janet and Owen communicated well before, during and after the stay and we had some lovely photos of Penny during the stay too. Lovely couple
Janet and Owen are a lovely couple and I felt very comfortable leaving my pets with them. They arrived with all their provisions. Kept our home tidy and did some extra tidying too. They also kept me up to date with my kitties and how they were. All laundry and beds stripped when we got home all in the wash. I even got my washing I had left tidied and folded too! Thank you. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or have them pet sit again (hint hint).

Remarkable
Janet and Owen did a truly remarkable job as house sitters and they proved to be an excellent choice for our pets especially. Not only did we find them very pleasant to be with, but our loved ones seemed delighted to spend time with them too. The attention they gave to everything in the household was amazing. They listened carefully to all our tips and instructions and we found the house (and, most importantly, our pets) in impeccable condition upon our return. They kept in touch with us during our 3 week holiday abroad, just enough for us to feel happy and secure that all was well. They even went the extra mile to clean and change the bedding for some guests who asked to stay in our rooms (B&B) as the cleaning lady was on sick leave and the house was spick and span when we returned. We could not have chosen better, they will be a difficult act to follow and we cannot recommend them enough. We hope that they enjoyed their stay in Alsace as much as we enjoyed having them here. We feel that we have gained a friendship and we hope to see them again some time in the near future, or at least to keep in touch with them on their many travels.

Highly recommended
Janet and Owen had a family commitment on the day of our departure, so they made the trip all the way to our house and back to meet us and the cats, to get a tour and to pick up the keys. We took to them immediately as the cats made themselves known and were clearly comfortable having them around. The right questions were asked and their attitude was both relaxed and attentive, which reassured us. Janet and Owen are seasoned sitters who clearly understand owners' concerns. They are also self-sufficient and were happy to adapt to our somewhat quirky home. We had text messages while we were away to give us assurance that all was well. On our return, we found a house that was spotless and three perfectly relaxed cats. We also found that the bed linens had been laundered and were drying! I would not have expected this, but it cut down a lot on the amount of laundry we had to do following our holiday and we really appreciated it. Highly recommended.

Owen and Janet are a lovely couple who looked after our home and ‘Pickles’ the Cat. No complaints from Pickles I don’t think she missed us at all. Our house was well looked after and food left for us on our return to save us going shopping. I can highly recommend them.

Brilliant
Janet and Owen came to us at short notice for just a weekend. Our first use of sitters. They were brilliant and obviously completely used to coping with anything. We went away confident that they would look after our little house and the animals. We came back to find they had even done the laundry which was much appreciated. Can not recommend them too highly.
