Dean & Elani – reliable, caring couple available for house and pet sitting

About this sitter

We are Dean and Elani, a married Namibian couple currently based in Portugal. We are calm, responsible and exceptionally tidy, and we enjoy a peaceful home life. We both work online with flexible hours, which allows us to spend plenty of time at home and adapt easily to pets’ established routines.

Animals have a very special place in our hearts, and Elani also has a green thumb and a deep love of plants and gardening. We enjoy nature, long walks and spending time outdoors - especially when we have four-legged companions joining us.

We understand that inviting someone into your home and entrusting them with your animals is a significant decision. Our aim is to give homeowners genuine peace of mind: attentive care for their pets and plants, a secure and well-kept home, clear communication and the confidence that everything is being treated with the same respect and care we would want for our own.

Why they want to house sit

House sitting brings together several things we genuinely love: animals, travel, nature and helping people.

It allows us to experience new towns, cities and countries as temporary locals rather than hotel guests. We enjoy discovering neighbourhoods on foot, spending time outdoors and experiencing the everyday character of a place. Best of all, we get to do this in the company of animals - something no hotel can offer.

For us, house sitting is much more than accommodation. It is a meaningful exchange built on trust. We can enjoy the freedom and discovery of travel while giving homeowners the reassurance that their animals, plants and home are being cared for by two dependable people. We especially love getting to know each animal’s personality and helping them feel safe, settled and loved while their family is away.

Their experience

From 2019 to 2022, we cared for a countryside villa in Monchique, Portugal, including the property, garden and two dogs.

During those three years, we became very familiar with the day-to-day responsibility of looking after a home: maintaining a clean and orderly environment, keeping the property secure, clean and noticing when something needed attention and ensuring the dogs received consistent care, exercise and companionship.

This long-term experience taught us the importance of reliability, observation and calm problem-solving. It also gave us a deep appreciation for the trust involved when someone places their home and much-loved animals in another person’s care. We never take that trust lightly.

What can they bring to the assignment

As a couple, we offer the reassurance of two attentive and dependable people sharing the responsibilities and providing consistent care. We have a strong, happy relationship and work very well as a team.

Dean & Elani are especially passionate about animals. while Elani LOVES plants and gardening, and Dean is practical and confident with everyday household matters. We are both loving, patient and observant, and we are comfortable following detailed routines and instructions.

Because we work online with flexible schedules, one or both of us will usually be at home during the day. This means pets receive plenty of companionship and are not left alone for long periods. We will:

Follow feeding, walking, medication and household routines carefully
Keep the home clean, tidy and secure
Care attentively for plants and gardens
Provide updates as often as the homeowner prefers
Respond calmly and promptly if something unexpected occurs

Above all, we bring a calm and caring presence, genuine affection for animals and deep respect for the responsibility entrusted to us. Our goal is for homeowners to travel with confidence and to return to a clean, peaceful home with happy, relaxed pets.
