Calm, sensible and pet-friendly mother and sometimes son

About this sitter

I'm Mel, a researcher and educator with a PhD and around 30 years of experience. I'm calm, reliable and used to looking after others, human and animal. I'm looking for homes with pets that would love company. I'm particularly interested in sits near Guildford from Oct 2026 to Jan 2027, and in Europe and beyond from Feb 2027.

Why they want to house sit

I've had lovely sitters myself, so I know how much it means. I love animals and enjoy looking after a home. It also suits my work and travel plans. I'll be in the Guildford area for work, then travelling with my son from February.

Their experience

Yes. I've been a member of another house sitting site for many years, as both sitter and homeowner. I’ve done over ten sits, cared for dogs (from tiny to giant), chickens, cats, goats and horses. UI’ve administered medication and special-needs care. I've worked with animals and outdoor learning for many years. I have a current DBS (criminal records check) and travel insurance. As a home owner myself, I'm not phased by basic DIY, practical jobs, gardening and home maintenance.

What can they bring to the assignment

Calm, reliability and good communication. I'll keep to your routines, send photos and updates, and keep your home clean and secure. I'll be home for much of the day, so pets won't be left alone for long. I love long walks and can keep dogs on leads and stick strictly to any instructions for care. (I can regale you of the week long missing dog chaos I endured after a sitter walked my anxious dog off the lead, sigh!) I know how important it is to do as requested. I’m also happy to water plants, sort post and look after gardens.
