About this sitter

We’re both experienced homeowners, and I also have extensive animal-care experience, including time working as a ranch hand in Montana caring for horses, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, dogs and cats.

We are from the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts traveling the country in 2027 while I take my creative project, The Live Dig™, on the road. We’re looking primarily for longer house sits in places where we’ll be spending several weeks or more, beginning with South Florida in January, February, and part of March.

We travel in our small camper van, Diggy, and with Whiskers, our friendly, well-behaved black-and-white cat. Any sit would need to accommodate both Whiskers and parking for the van.

We welcome sits involving animals, including homes with multiple pets or farm animals, provided Whiskers can safely be accommodated.

We’re responsible, tidy, independent people who genuinely enjoy settling into a place and living like locals rather than simply passing through.

Why they want to house sit

We’ll be traveling for several months, but in many places we plan to stay for weeks rather than days. House sitting gives us the opportunity to settle into a community, have a real home base, and help someone else travel with the peace of mind that their home—and pets, when applicable—are being well cared for.

There’s also a nice symmetry to it: while we’re traveling, house sitters will be caring for our own homes in Massachusetts. We know firsthand how much trust is involved in handing someone the keys to your home.

Their experience

Yes. We’re both longtime homeowners, and I also have considerable experience caring for animals.

During several years of full-time RV travel from 2016–2020, I spent part of that time working as a ranch hand in Montana, where we helped care for cattle, horses, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, ducks, dogs, and cats. I’ve also had dogs, cats, and a rabbit of my own.

Several of my pets have had significant medical conditions requiring regular medication, so I’m comfortable administering medications in a variety of forms and following detailed care instructions. I’m also very attentive to animals and tend to notice subtle changes in behavior, appetite, energy, or routine that may indicate something is off.

We understand that every animal has its own personality, habits, and needs, and we’ll follow your routines rather than imposing ours.

What can they bring to the assignment

We bring maturity, reliability, flexibility, and a genuine respect for the fact that we’re being trusted with someone else’s home.

We’re both practical, capable homeowners who are comfortable handling the normal things that come up around a house. We communicate well, follow instructions, and if something unexpected happens, we’re the kind of people who will deal with it calmly rather than ignore it.

We’re also happy to care for pets, plants, gardens, mail, and the little routines that make a home feel cared for while its owners are away.

Because our travel schedule is intentionally slow, we’re not looking at a house sit simply as a free place to sleep. We’re looking for a temporary home base and a chance to become part of a community for a while. We’ll treat your home accordingly.

Between us, we bring both the practical experience of longtime homeowners and substantial hands-on experience caring for animals.
