About this sitter

We’re Jan, Pavli, Oli, Naděje, Ester and Abi from Czechia — two adults and four children, aged 10, 5, 3, and 8 months. We’re travelling as a family. We love to travel and explore the world together. I am a freelancer IT Security specialist and my wife is a midwife. We decided to trade our careers for more time as a family together so we hit the road and have been traveling for almost two years now.

We were both growing up with dogs and cats and also have experience with horses and farm animals. We do everything we can together and we’ll take your loved ones with us so they’ll have company and a lot of time outside.

Why they want to house sit

We’re travelling slowly as a family and would rather live somewhere for a few weeks than pass through it. Waking up in a real home, learning a dog’s favourite route, watching the children get to know a place properly — that’s the version of travel we want them to have while they’re young enough for it. We’re also not settled enough for a dog and farm animals of our own yet but love animals. Sitting means we get to look after animals properly instead of giving one a half-life around our travelling. Your pet is the most of the reason the children are excited to arrive.

Their experience

Over the past five years we’ve looked after six homes in Europe. That’s included dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep and chickens — often several at once. “Our longest was four weeks on a small farm in South Czechia with two dogs, four horses, two cows, eight sheep and a flock of laying hens.” I’m comfortable with the ordinary farm routine: morning and evening feeds, turnout and bringing in, checking water in heat and ice, gates and fencing, mucking out, and keeping an eye out for the things that matter — a horse off its food, a limp, a dog that’s gone quiet.

What can they bring to the assignment

My wife and I grew up with dogs and have had them for most of our lives, so the basics are second nature: medication given on time, senior dogs who need lifting or shorter routes, anxious dogs who need a predictable day, very active dogs that love running and need to play a lot.
