About this sitter

We are mature, flexible Canadians couple who were able to retire early. We have been married 47+ years, are currently located in the South of France and so are ideally located for house sits in most European cities and locations. We have handled backed up pipes in New Mexico, strong winds and heavy rain on top of a mountain in Spain, and pedigree show dogs in Scotland. Not much fazes us and we have the energy, ability and enthusiasm to house sit just about anywhere.

Harry is a freelance writer and skilled handyman. Having maintained three homes of our own, one of which is our stone home in Provence, he has come up against and coped with just about problem imaginable, meaning peace of mind for you.
Liz is a retired business professional, bird watcher and avid gardener who has turned a Canadian clay backyard into a colourful three season blooming garden. (Canadian winter remains a challenge to get much colour growing). An accomplished 'cat whisperer', Liz is very experienced acting as 'staff' to animals - ready and willing to provide care, cuddles and combing. Older cats who require a little extra care have become a specialty. One of our own feline princesses, Maggie, enjoyed a 21 year pampered life.

Why they want to house sit

We both enjoy seeing new places and cultures. We have done the tour/hotel route and prefer the in-depth experience that actually living in the area provides. We are looking for house and pet sits in more urban areas. We are currently without our own pets and quite frankly, miss not having furry people around to spoil and pamper. I think that pets provide a great depth to everyone's quality of life, and I really enjoy pampering, cuddling and caring for them.

We have been housesitting almost continuously since December 2008. (except during COVID, of course) We have successfully completed housesits in Washington DC, Paris, London England, Rome, Cap d'Antibes, Berlin, Scotland, Switzerland, Spain, France, Sweden, Monaco and throughout England, Canada and the US. We have been asked to return by most of our homeowners and have 100% positive recommendations from every one.

If you are looking for someone reliable and trustworthy to look after your precious home and pets while you are away, and Liz and Harry DeYong are willing to housesit/petsit for you, then you have won the lottery. I don’t believe you can find a finer couple of people than these two.
They have taken care of our lakeside home and acreage in the country, plus our two cats (one of them 17 ½ years old and needing a bit of extra care), and when we returned after two months travelling, it was a joy to find two very happy cats, and everything else – the house, yard, vehicles, equipment – in even better shape than when we left.

Our philosophy on housesitting is that both sides benefit. We get to experience a new place and enjoy your pets while you get to go away knowing that your home, pets and possessions are in capable and caring hands.
Your pets will be glad to see you come home but sorry to see us leave. We will forward any mail and provide a constant presence and security inside your home.
We also provide 'letters from home' - emails and pictures sent on a regular basis to give you additional peace of mind that things are well on the homefront.
You will find your home has been respected and cared for as if it were our own. Because we believe in a straight exchange, we do not accept payment nor do we pay any fees, rent, bond or utility charges.
Harry and Liz have Royal Canadian Mounted Police clearances and both have been bonded. We have personally owned and maintained 5 homes over the years and know the importance and value of your most cherished possessions.
