House sitter wanted for 3 weeks in March 2027 for quirky eco-friendly household in rural Andalucía, with beautiful mountain view and peaceful location

About this assignment

I am looking for 1 or 2 people to live in my house while I am away for 2+ weeks in March 27 to care for my rescue podenco mongrel, 2 cats and 2 horses and generally keep an eye on the place.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The dog needs a daily walk (and I have a fenced area off my terrace for the day time), and the cats just feeding. The horses live in a large corral with a shelter they can use, and need feeding several times a day. You need to be comfortable and have some experience around horses, even though you don’t have to take them out of the corral.I grow organic veggies which will need some watering (and eating!)

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is a simple 2 storey build in the Spanish style, with terraces, in the beautiful Axarquía, north east of Málaga. My power and hot water is all solar (I have access to mains power if needed, usually only in the winter months). The house is surrounded by almond and olive groves, and vineyards. There would obviously have to be a couple of days overlap before I went in order to introduce you to all the animals and their care, and if you wanted to stay on for a couple of days after my return to be able to perhaps visit places such as Granada, Málaga and so on, this can be negotiated. There are buses from the village to the coast/Málaga.
Although there sounds quite a lot to do, it probably only adds up to less than 2 hours a day - leaving you time to relax by the pool, stroll/drive into the nearby village (25 mins walk), bird watching, or whatever. You would need to be over 25, so that you can use my car. I am just over an hour from Málaga airport, and would be happy to collect you from there. I have a good internet connection. You have no bills to pay.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You need to be prepared to live somewhere quiet as I am a long way from the clubs of the Costas! This is rural Spain at its best with fantastic scenery, between two very small typical Spanish villages, with friendly bars and restaurants.
As my spare room is a double, this house sit is really only suitable for a single person or couple, not a family. I also have a small ensuite annexe if 2 friends wanted to house sit and not share a bedroom. I would prefer non smokers, and the house is a complete no smoking zone. Knowledge of Spanish is not essential, as I have lived here for over 30 years, so have many friends who could translate in an emergency.
