About this assignment
We are looking for a mature and responsible couple who love peaceful country living, France and cats. They must be non smokers and prepared to look after the house and garden as if it were their own. They will need their own transport. It is not suitable for children.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
We'd like our sitters to keep the house clean and tidy, empty the post box and feed and care for a friendly cat. Depending on the time of year, the sitters will need to mow the grass, look after the vegetable garden and water the pots. Liffey loves a nice lap to sit on but she is not allowed/supposed to sleep on the furniture. Bedroom doors need to be kept closed but doors to outside need to be opened on request as there is no cat flap.
What are the good features of the property and location
One of the most attractive features of our property is its peaceful and private location among the vines north of Cognac. It is clean, light and spacious with two sets of French doors to let in the sunshine. It is in a small hamlet of five houses so not isolated but it has a large garden and is not overlooked. The nearest shops are ten minutes away. There is private, off road parking.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
After a number of bad experiences with careless and casual house sitters we feel that we have to mention that we value a high standard of cleanliness especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. We would like our house sitters to appreciate this, to maintain it during our absence and to agree to leave the property just as clean as they find it. We expect our sitters to take care of the house according to our detailed written instructions and to treat our belongings with care and respect, thus avoiding unnecessary breakage or damage.
Our Wifi is sometimes slow. It is suitable for keeping in touch with friends and family but please be aware that it is definitely not for business purposes.
Our dates are usually flexible.

House & cat sitting for Lyn & Geoff was great despite almost constant rain...! We were able to meet them before the sit when we drove back from Spain to UK prior to the house sit. I returned 2 weeks later (family illness prevented my other half from coming) to spend 16 days at their lovely property situated centrally in the wine & cognac producing area of Charente-Maritime. The 2 moggies, Euro & Liffey were no problem at all and did their own thing. I was able to indulge in touring around the region and taking some great photographs. Lyn and Geoff were great company before they left and on their return and we were in contact to update on any happenings. I look forward to the opportunity to return.

Cat sitting at Le Chausset near Cognac
We have just enjoyed a 3 week house and pet sit at Le Chausset for Lyn and Geoff, they were the perfect hosts and made us very very welcome. They are friendly couple with a great sense of humour. Lyn made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The house was large and had a great kitchen which was fully equipped. We were given clear instructions on what was need to be done and there was good a instruction manuel with all the information you require. There is a large garden surrounding the house with a beautiful fish pond and a patio where you can sit and enjoy a meal. The cats, Euro and Liffey, are so affectionate and love to sit on your lap and enjoy some playtime, they are so sweet and are no trouble to look after, we miss them already and really enjoyed looking after them. The area is quiet and peaceful and you are surrounded by vineyards. There are some good restaurants nearby and it is a great location for visiting places. Lyn kept in contact before, during and after our stay. We have been invited back and look forward to it.

This was a lovely housesit. The two cats are sweet. The house has all conveniences and an especially nice kitchen. It was a pleasure to keep it in shape. The owners were clear about their expectations and the workings of the house and the cats' characters. They kept in touch before, during and after. The neighborhood is quiet, rural, and relatively flat, but we found plenty of things to do within reach by car, as well as nice walks along the country roads and local paths.
