Animal care in Tuscany

About this assignment

I am very much looking forward to meeting a couple who will enjoy being surrounded by animals. People who have experience and can keep the animals safe whilst enjoying the local area here in the Garfagnana region of Tuscany.
My dates are fluid as I have no firm travel plans yet. So please do feel free to contact me if you have 3 weeks so spend here during end of March into April.
Although I have no reviews on this site I can provide reviews from another pet sitting platform.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

A sit here involves caring for a horse, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 5 geese and chickens. There is a vegetable garden and you would be welcome to the produce in exchange for some weeding and watering.
The daily cares are straightforward and include cleaning pens/stable, fresh bedding, regular feeds and fresh water. This list is not exhaustive as anyone with experience will know ;) but I have developed a routine that is simple to follow. The horse has several paddocks and a trail links them all in order to keep her active as she is not to be ridden.
All of the animals have a lot of freedom here and they all interact well although we all give the geese a wide berth at times ;)

What are the good features of the property and location

The property is simple and very typical of the region. Situated on the outskirts of a small village it is very rural and peaceful. Within the local village there is a pizzeria and a couple of bars and a river all within walking distance. The local towns and supermarkets are just a short drive away but too far to walk and so you will need your own transport.
This is not a tourist area and so is a lovely opportunity to live as a local.

I have had a lot of interest from people who would like to use the sit as a holiday base and from here explore the highlights of Tuscany. So I must add that it is just not practical. You can however use the handover period to explore as you have your own vehicle. The more local sights of this none touristy area are very accessible during your stay.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Experience of handling and caring for all the species here is preferred but necessary with a horse. The routine here is designed to be simple. I offer a 2-3 day hand over period to settle in and learn the all important routines.
For peace of mind I am very fortunate to have a vet across a field next door but basic common sense first- aid skills are also necessary.
