About this assignment

We are looking for a dependable, non-smoking pet lover to watch our three cats: Lily, River, & Willow. The kitties are one year old (siblings) and are such a joy to watch zooming around the house and napping together.

We are looking for someone who will ideally not be away from the house more than 6 hours at a time.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The kitties get fed a mixture of wet & dry food two times a day. They will also need their litter box scooped twice a day.

We would also like our mail collected and watering of our plants while we're away.

What are the good features of the property and location

You will stay in our sunny guest room with king size bed on the main floor with en-suite bathroom. We have an open concept kitchen, dining room, gas fireplace in the living room, and sunroom on the main floor. We have a large fenced in backyard and salt water pool + jacuzzi combo.

We live in a very safe, quiet neighborhood with a public golf course, tennis courts, and miles of walking paths. We have multiple streaming accounts that you can use to view Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney +, and Apple TV.

We are an 8 minute drive from Publix grocery store and 15 minutes from a Walmart Supercenter. Historic downtown Apex is a 15 minute drive and has a great year round Farmer's Market on Saturdays as well as wonderful restaurants. The award-winning Downtown Cary Park is a 20 minute drive as well as downtown Raleigh and all it has to offer.

We are under a 15 minute drive to Jordan Lake which offers great swimming and boating opportunities and is one of the largest summertime homes of the bald eagle.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You will want to have a car since we are located in the suburbs. We are a 20-25 minute drive from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Three sweet kittens

I had a delightful time with Willow, River and Lily in their comfortable, spacious home. Each has a charming, distinctive personality so there was ever a dull moment. Their feeding schedule and litter setup is easy. They have two speeds, playful wrestling /chasing toys and serious napping/ cuddling. They love people! The neighborhood is nice for walking and the immediate area is easy to navigate by car. Kirsten left me dining suggestions and there are plenty of options. The Sunday farmers market is excellent, too. I had a relaxing stay and thoroughly enjoyed three precious kitties.

Big Stuffed Animal

Nigel was one of the best dogs, ever! He's so cute and always wants to be around you. He's like a huge stuffed animal, cuddly and comforting, all day. Even guards your room at night! The home was big, very clean, had a movie room we all (Nigel too ;) ) enjoyed nightly movies together in. Beds were really comfortable and ample. Nearby walking paths, for his walks, were enjoyed. Kirsten was easy and quick to communicate with.

2 dogs and a cat

The home is lovely in a very quiet neighborhood about 20 miles from Washington DC and Baltimore. Kirsten kindly showed me the ropes before she and her family went on vacation and we kept in touch daily by e-mail and Whatsapp. I had my own bedroom with a very comfy queen bed plus an en-suite bathroom. Nigel is a big cuddly teddy bear posing as an English Sheepdog who loved a shoulder massage while he and I watched tv together, especially when there were dogs on the screen. He was particularly interested when a big brown look-alike appeared. I told him it was his great great great granddaddy from a long-lost African tribe. He looked at me wide-eyed and seemed to believe what I said and sat proudly upright. His little beagle buddy, Lucas, couldn’t care less and tucked his nose under his paws, sighed, and went to sleep to dream of rabbits and squirrels to chase in his big fenced-in garden. Carla, the cat, wished they’d both move out! They were always wanting to eat her kibble. She didn’t think that was fair since she didn’t attempt to eat theirs. She’s quite the loner but did venture out to visit me in bed after a couple of days getting used to this stranger in her house. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my new furry friends and will miss them all. Thank you Kirsten for trusting me with your little family.

Best experience ever!

Really enjoyed house sitting for Carla and her beautiful family. Carla is a real earth angel. Kirsten, another earth angel, was incredibly helpful, organized, highly responsive and felt like she thought about every detail to make our experience smooth and pleasant. The house felt like home, very comfy and magical with occasional visits of friendly wildlife. Was really fun to explore the area and discover awesome trails. To sum, I had a great experience and I'm very thankful for Carla and her family. I would love to house sit for them again as I already miss them.
