Rural N. Michigan home near Lake Huron

About this assignment

Looking for a rural location that offers peace and quiet? The main purpose here is just providing a presence for security and care for two inside cats. We should be leaving approx Nov 14, back mid March. It is absolutely imperative that cats remain inside. Sammy and Muffet are 2 and 3 yrs old. One or both sleep in our bed at night. Sammy especially is very active and will do the usual annoying cat things, like jumping on tables/counters, knocking things off , he gets an real kick out of that. No health issues except Sammy has one eye that waters a lot, so you will need to use a cat wipe for that. A couple indoor plants to water, some foundation plants outside and possibly the garden if not raining much. Fall/Winter no watering outside. If 3 or more inches of snow we have someone to come plow the driveway. Winters are trending milder, but expect anything.

We bought this house a little over a year ago and have spent the last year remodeling it . Its not huge, we downsized. 968 sq ft, same for the mostly finished lower level. We are on 5 private acres, almost equi-distant between Oscoda and East Tawas, Michigan. If you fish, boat, kayak, canoe,or hike, the AuSable river and Huron-Manistee National Forest is nearby. Also, there are several piers to fish or just take on walk on. There are 7 sandy beaches within 9 miles from us on Lake Huron. Tawas Point State Park/and Lighthouse is a birding Hotspot, has a trail and great beach. Another good birding spot is Tuttle Marsh, a few miles from us. If there is enough snow, the Corsair Ski Trails are nearby, excellent and groomed. East Tawas/Tawas City, for small towns, have a variety of good restaurants, some waterfront. There is a great Farmer's Market on the waterfront on Saturdays(ends Oct 30). We also have two golf courses close by.

We ask that the house is kept clean and that our simple instructions are adhered to. We have also housesat around the country ourselves so we are well aware of concerns on both ends. We want a couple, preferably retired, with at least several years of housesit references and have an affinity for cats. One or both usually sleep with us. It would help if you're flexible with the end date.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

feed and moniter 2 cats. do not let outside. Sammy needs his eye wiped just about every day. Eye drops if youre willing. Not mandatory because im not sure its really doing anything. Water a couple indoor plants. Water foundation plants if no rain in a week. Water garden every few days if no rain(summer only). Take our mail from the mailbox. Keep the house clean.

What are the good features of the property and location

Its rural, peaceful, and very quiet. Can barely see one neighbor waaay over there. We have 5 acres. The road is paved and the driveway is concrete. Plenty of room if you have an RV. Tawas/Lake Huron is 8.5 miles, in the other direction is Oscoda/Lake Huron 9 miles. Walmart, other shopping, plenty of restaurants.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You must have verifiable references of previous housesits. Experience and a love of cats. Ability to keep things clean. As state previously, we recently remodeled this house, mostly by ourselves, so we want people who are conscientious and keep the place clean and undamaged.
