Lovely rural Mid -West France location

About this assignment

Experienced, reliable , honest, clean, non smoking animal lover to look after a menagerie for between 10-14 days from around 31 October 2026 till 14 November 2026!. lWe can be flexible on the dates/
length of time away hence I have stated 10-14 days. We could move the start date back too if necessary to fit in with you. I really want to find the “ right “ person!

I am looking for someone or a couple with proven ability to look after 2 horses, 2 donkeys, 1 dog , 3 cats , a few chickens, 2 ducks ,
tropical and pond fish.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Maintenance of house i..e. cleaning, keeping tidy.
Feeding poultry ( no letting out or shutting in required as they have automated doors), feeding and playing with the dog , feeding cats, feeding twice daily, checking / watering of horses, giving medication to one of the horses, , checking , feeding and watering of donkeys twice daily. Feed hay if necessary. Feeding tropical fish. Observing general health and well being of aforementioned animals, reporting back to owners or neighbours if an emergency should arise.

What are the good features of the property and location

Nestled in Deux Sevres rolling country side in a private and secluded location but only 1 km from a small village in Mid West France. Welcoming, 3 bedroom farmhouse with
comfortable, but rustic accommodation.. We are still renovating parts of the house but can offer Central heating throughout ( heat pump) and air conditioning in 2 bedrooms. Shower room and toilet downstairs with plenty of hot water. No bath . Above ground swimming pool (unheated) 7.3 m x 3.6 m plus an electric spa . Set in 4.5 hectares of its own land with a large garden and pergola area for outdoor eating/ drinking.
Our house is situated about 1 hour 15 minutes from the Vendee Coast. English TV available by satellite. Wifi too.
Cave in the village selling wines, beers and spirits.
Great Bar / restaurant in village within walking distance.
Use of a vehicle ( pick up) is included for a licensed driver.
We have had one couple of housesitters previously who have come back again but are sadly unavailable for this assignment.
One of the horses is ridden, the other is not.
I actually have 2 dogs but 1 of them is very uncomfortable and nervous with people she doesn’t know, so I will probably put her in a kennel for the duration of the sit.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We have hot summers here and the weather usually continues to be fine throughout the autumn.

The location is very secluded and there are no near neighbours. The nights are very dark here as there is little light pollution!

There is a bar/ restaurant in the village within walking distance that serves great lunches or evening meals at the weekend.
However you do have to drive to get .anywhere else
There are other bars and restaurants within 5/ 10 mins by car.
There are quite a lot of animals here and varied species but they are all easy to handle and friendly. It is important to state that they do need regular care, checking and fussing!
We normally clean the donkeys field of donkey poo daily and it would be ideal if our house sitters could do the same. Though this isn’t an obligation.
We have a large garden and potager ( veggie garden). There might be some watering to do depending on the weather.
