About this assignment

We are looking for someone reliable and honest, who is a dog lover. Our dog is quite old, so looking for someone who might have some experience with older dogs.

We will be gone July 31-August 6. Looking for someone to arrive the day of (our flight is in the evening) or day before to meet our dog and tour our home, and to leave August 7 as we get home late.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Responsibilities include:
-Feeding and walking our one dog, twice a day for both activities
-Taking in mail
-Watering of plants
-If you use the hot tub, adding a tablespoon of oxidating powder (we don't use chlorine/bromine)
-Keep house tidy

What are the good features of the property and location

We are located in Nob Hill, the heart of Albuquerque. We are walking distance from many wonderful restaurants, two blocks from the co-op grocery store, near the university, and in an overall friendly neighborhood. Neighbors are very friendly and helpful if needed.

We have a hot tub that can be used. Our house is large and spacious, with a kitchen full of items to allow for cooking great meals. We have a finished downstairs basement with guest quarters, which is where we have house sitters sleep.

We have new air-con that keeps the house nice and cool. We also have a nice gas fireplace to keep the house warm in cold times.

We are near a bus that will take you to the train station (easy ride to Santa Fe), as well as to the downtown area. We live in a very walkable neighborhood.

We have reliable wi-fi.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Our dog is very mellow, sweet and cuddly, and protective of the house. He is 15 years old, and a little hard of hearing; walks are slow and mellow. He has had some recent health issues. He can be left alone (he has a dog door). He currently is on a whole food diet, so we cook all of his food; usually a batch of food lasts about a week or so.

This is a non-smoking household.

There will not be a car available for use.

We have a house cleaner, she is scheduled to come during the time we are gone.

We cannot provide any payment or reimbursement for travel/expenses. We can only offer accommodations in our home.

ABQ home/pet sit. Carson is the best!

Katrina and Peter are nice, friendly and easy going. They left detailed written information for care of dog, home and hot tub. Their dog Carson is so sweet and loveable. He requires little care outside of feeding and walking twice a day. The hot tub is top of the line and an added perk. The home is nice and in a safe area. Lots to see and do in ABQ. Make sure to do the Tram. I would definitely recommend sitting for them if you get the chance.

Lovely couple, home & dog!

Katrina & Pete were wonderfully welcoming and lovely to get to know my first night there. They showed me around their house and chatted with me about their neighborhood and city. I felt I had all the information I needed before they left. Carson is an absolute sweetheart! I loved hanging out with him while I was there, and enjoyed our walks around their lovely neighborhood. Their house had everything I needed, and the neighborhood had plenty of walkable restaurants and cafes. I would definitely recommend a sit here!

Great location; lovely, easygoing dog!

We had a wonderful experience housesitting for Peter and Katrina, and taking care of their 13-year-old dog, Carson. Their home is peaceful and lovely (I particularly enjoyed the secluded backyard with hot tub). The location is a peaceful neighborhood that’s nice for walks with Carson, convenient to shopping and bus service. Carson is a sweetheart who loves to be around people but isn’t demanding. When we had a concern about his care, we were able to text and get a quick response. Instructions for care of both dog and home were clear and reasonable. Overall an excellent trip!

Albuquerque house/pet sit

I was fortunate enough to house sit for Katrina & Pete in July 2022. It was a little warm when I got here, but soon cooled off with the short daily clouds or showers. The mornings and evenings were exceptional. Their dog, Carson, is older and very mellow. Our morning and evening walks were as relaxing to me as they were a joy to him. I didn't meet Pete as he had left before Katrina, but Katrina was an exceptional host. She made me feel right at home and explained my duties (also written) the day before she left. They have a comfortable home which is easy to get to many areas of Albuquerque. Albuquerque satisfies many interests (museums, art galleries, Old Town, hiking in the Sandias. I very much enjoyed my stay. Thanks Katrina & Pete.

Carson is a fantastic dog

Peter and Katrina are organized and communicate well. Their home is in the ideal spot in the ideal neighborhood. With a loveky view from the back deck. The wifi is reliable. Best of all—Caron is just wonderful. He is mature (so mellow) but healthy (so he doesn’t need much help). He likes petting and walks and staying in the same room as the humans. He was an excellent host.

Love in the time of Carson.

I could not have asked for more from this housesitting experience. Katrina and Peter are warm, welcoming, and so kind; it’s easy to see how these qualities made their way into their amazing dog Carson . Carson is extremely laid back, doting and well-behaved, you can take him anywhere dogs are welcome. He loves belly rubs, face rubs, getting brushed, food, leisurely sniffing on his walks and you. I had no trouble getting him to settle into a routine with me and he’s great company. You will miss him the second you leave! The house is lovely, soothing, comfortable, clean and very centrally located in the Nob Hill area, walkable, and close to bus stops, restaurants, groceries and all amenities. A perfect spot to explore Albuquerque. Most of my contact was with Katrina, she was communicative, friendly, picking me up from the train station, making me dinner and acclimating me to their lovely home and Carson. They remained communicative and responsive throughout. I highly recommend this pet and house sit.

Great people

Peter & Katrina are great people. They are very responsible, professional couple. Both have worked for Peace Corps International. They have traveled often and know the logistics of living abroad. They also have a 2nd home (vacation home) so they understand how having visitors in your home works.
