About this assignment

We are looking for someone/or couple, who is willing to commit to a period of time for assisting in managing this tropical retreat .
We are somewhat flexible, but prefer a longer term stay.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Seeking a person or couple to watch over property and pets when owners are away. Basic home maintenance and willingness to chip in where necessary. Familiarization with tropical living a plus.
We have a groundskeeper who manages the gardens, and we usually have volunteers who help with other tasks.
We are seeking someone who is willing and able to commit to a number of hours per week to assist with property flow in exchange for housing and other living necessities.
A good deal of your time will be your own to explore the area. We will provide lodging, transportation when possible, WIFI, attendance to ongoing classes available, (yoga, tai chi, etc.,) lots of fresh fruit (!), playful dogs, and a lovely place to be.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our property is in a great location along the Pacific coast situated conveniently to explore in-country and local areas. Beautiful beaches minutes away and located in an interesting eclectic village with great restaurants.
Inside our gates you will find a 5 acre exotic garden filled with lush landscape and wildlife. It is a peaceful space with winding trails, bamboo stands and fruit trees.
We have 4 casitas we offer to travelers, a yoga pavilion and a Spa House.
MMH person/s will stay in one of the casitas.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Willingness to be helpful and commit to a period of time. Owners are managing temporary heath issues which can sometimes take them a way for days, weeks or recently over a month. We need someone we can count on to "hold down the fort" while away.
We are available to conversation about what would be necessary for all needs to be met.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Welcome to a slice of paradise!

My wife Jennifer and I have had the privilege of helping the Bali Rica owners take care of the property for the past seven months in exchange for living here. Sharon is a wonder to be around, she and Mac have so many years of experience living in a jungle environment that they are full of great stories and advice to live a full life. They are such warm, welcoming people with a true pura vida outlook. Whether Sharon was in the US or onsite in Costa Rica, we were in contact almost daily about the responsibilities around the property. Anytime we had questions or concerns, we could easily get in touch with Sharon or Mac. Our main areas of focus were ensuring that the guest housing was always ready to go, assisting with building and grounds maintenance, and managing and assigning tasks to the Workaway volunteers. Working with the volunteers has been amazing. We have met people from all over the world and made some new friends. There are always projects that need to be completed and we both learned new skills from various volunteers and had the opportunity to teach skills to others. Even after seven months, we saw new natural wonders regularly! Our time here has been one of the most fulfilling experiences we have had in a long time, which is not to say it was always easy. Living and maintaining property in the jungle comes with its own set of challenges, such as power outages, water outages, heavy rains, and a myriad of insects and critters. All things we were able to work through with a flexible attitude and became worthwhile when we also got to experience such an abundance of nature - incredible sunsets, monkey encounters, amazing hikes, and waterfalls. Bali Rica is a special place that brings people from all walks of life together. We were embraced by the local community and the classes at Bali Rica are a real part of what made it so special. Jen and I both learned what it takes to maintain an environment that is both beautiful and demanding, while also balancing work. We secured Costa Rica Digital Nomad Visas shortly after we arrived at Bali Rica, and we have been able to keep up with our online work and still lend a hand daily. We will miss Sharon, and especially will miss Oso (the dog), Kiki (the Cat), Jasmine, Sol, and Cruella (the chickens) who are always happy to hang out and generate smiles! We were so lucky to have had the opportunity to work, play, and relax in this environment. Thank you, Sharon and Mac!!
