About this assignment

We are looking for someone to love our pets while we are gone and take care of our home with care.

Women sitters preferred. We'd love a single woman, Mom and daughter or Female couple. No children under 15 please. (our rescue dogs are new to us and afraid of men and not used to small children yet)

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The cats are indoor/outdoor and the old cat uses a litter box once in a while. Dogs are fed 2 times per day and cats are fed wet food, once in the morning and then just browse the bowl for the rest of the day. There are 13 chickens on property that will need the eggs collected every day or two, we have a very large feeder that shouldn't need to be filled at all and they need to be watered every few days (faucet is right on top of the waterer, so no heavy lifting required). Our garden will need minimal care and I can show you what to do (30 minutes once or twice per week). There are several houseplants to water weekly.

What are the good features of the property and location

Saxapahaw is a rural village north of Chapel Hill that is very special and unique. We have a several farm to table restaurants, a butcher, a river and a lake for fishing and kayaking (I will leave our kayaks and life vests but you will need to have the vehicle to transport them to the lake and all responsibility for safety is on you), lots of walking trails, farms, one hour from Raleigh, one hour from Greensboro, 20 minutes to University of NC at Chapel Hill, 20 minutes to Burlington, 25 minutes to Durham and Duke University.

The village has a Saturday farmer's market and music series all Summer long to enjoy.

We have two dogs, Pax and Odie and three cats. The dogs are both rescue dogs and puppies (will be about 1 1/2 years at time of sit) so can be difficult, but they are learning. They are house trained but will chew things and the shepherd needs a job. We have cognitive toys, a large backyard and you can walk him but it's not necessary if he stays busy playing and with the toys. The cats are tabby cats, easy to care for and love to be loved. They are all sweet pets. The house is 3,600 square feet, but we would close off most of the bedrooms. Huge kitchen, huge family room.

The chickens have a large coop and run and will not be free ranged so they don't really require much care. Automatic door so no worries of remembering to open and close it each day. The eggs are yours to use.

I'm asking for the garden to be watered once per week. I DO NOT expect our house sitter to weed. I will do that when I get home!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Non smokers only!! We would love to find a single person or a female couple to care for our animals while we are traveling because Odie is fearful of men. Our home is located in a rural village so a vehicle would be necessary. We will not be able to lend our vehicles out for any reason. Our kitchen is well equipped for someone who enjoys cooking. We'd love to entertain you for a few days prior to our trip so the dogs can get to know you. Our house sitters should leave the house before we arrive home.

Thank you!!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Open-hearted family

We kept their 2 dogs and kitty for two months in the summer. We had some changes from the host that affected his departure and we were given the choice to back out, or share space. We appreciated being given the choice. We had anticipated getting to kayak, but there was a local death on the river while there, and the owners were hestitant to supply us understandably. It was very hot, and the owners were quick to respond to our call for help when the a/c went out, even though they were hot themselves in France without a/c. The pets were loving and a delight to live with. The area offered many activities and places to visit. We enjoyed outdoor concerts and sunset walks regularly.
