The cats eat different food since one has a special diet, and Luna also might need to have meds administered - I will show you how to do that.
I'm looking for someone who is responsible, kind, clean, and is home part of the day ideally. I have two kitties - a 9-year old sweet, shy and sometimes playful kitty, Luna, who likes attention when not lazing around or snoozing, and 7-year old Pele, who is curious and communicative.
I have a 2-bedroom/ 1-bathroom house with a backyard. You would be staying in the guest room/ my office, which gets nice light and is a good size.
I am looking for someone who will take care of my home and kitties, is mature, communicative and can make good decisions when needed.
I am also looking for someone who can eventually commit to the dates we agree on. I've had instances of people dropping out at the last minute, so would need some level of commitment at some point.
Basic responsibility will be to keep the place clean and make sure Luna and Pele get some food and affection. I like to keep my place clean and tidy, so am looking for someone who can respect that.
If they can take the garbage, compost and/or recycling out once a week (Monday nights), that would be great.
I am looking for someone who is conscientious about energy use and can also minimize water use - when washing dishes, taking a shower, etc. California is drought-prone, water is an expensive resource, and conservation is a value of mine.
I will leave the phone number of a neighbor for any emergencies or questions.
Mine is a cute 2-BR, 2 story house in a fantastic location off Piedmont Ave, in Oakland. There are lots of cafes, shops, restaurants, a yoga studio, book stores, a movie theater, and more. It's walking distance to a park and Lake Merritt.
The bathroom has a claw foot tub and is good sized. I have a lovely backyard that is shared by a neighbor who lives in the back unit.
There are stairs to reach the front door as well as stairs inside to reach the bedrooms and bathroom on the second floor.
Ideal house sitters will not be out most of the time. Pele and Luna like to have someone to hang out with for part of the day (mornings, evenings) as they can be social. Comfort in administering medicine is preferred, since Luna might need some meds for her allergies (it depends on time of year and current situation).
This is an exchange of a lovely free place to stay in a great location for kitty care with some light house tending. Unfortunately, it is not a paid gig.
No, sorry.

Piedmont/Oakland Cat Sit
From the start, planning and communicating with Laila were clear, informative, and easy. Her two cute cats were joyful company once they overcame their initial timidness and became comfortable with us. They have different food needs, and one of them has a couple of medical needs. Laila provided detailed instructions that made us feel comfortable from the beginning, and with some patience and adaptability, the routines became easy as we got to know these two kitties. The location is nice and convenient—on a more quiet residential street, yet close to restaurants, groceries, public transportation, and some pretty walking areas. Overall, everything went smoothly and we hade pleasant stay!

Cute kitties in comfy Oakland home
Laila was a great communicator leading up to and all throughout the sit. She had all the information about her home, sweet kitties and garden thoroughly documented for us in a Google Doc, and she walked us through everything in detail before heading out for her trip. Pele was not very cuddly at first, but eventually came around! We had a lot of fun playing laser tag with her. Luna was unfortunately dealing with allergies and needed some extra care getting meds through her food and generally keeping an eye out. We made sure to follow all instructions and give her plenty of pets to keep her as comfortable and cared for as possible. Laila's home is in a great area; comfortable and walkable with a lovely garden out back. Her neighbor Chantal was also really friendly and helpful in administering an injection for Luna while we were there. Laila is a thoughtful, kind host with a lovely home and two very lovable kitties. We would recommend this sit for any cat lover wanting to visit Oakland!

House/Cat sitting for Laila
I loved house/cat sitting for Laila! Her house is beautiful, my room was so comfy and cosy and I loved taking care of her cats. They were so playful and sweet! Laila checked in while away and made sure I had everything I needed. I felt very comfortable the whole time and her kitties were a great company. I would definitely house/pet sit for her again.

My husband and I just spent 9/10 days caring for Laila’s delightful kitties. They are fun affectionate endearing and mischievous..never a dull moment! Luna loved to be brushed and after a little apprehension so did babyPele..the brush often mistaken for a chew toy! Laila’s home is charming and her back garden truly wonderful..the house is in a great neighbourhood with lots of stores cafes restaurants and bookshops. An enjoyable experience with furry loving companions. Regards Margot and James

The place to be in Oakland
Leila and her cute ball of fur Luna are the best. Communicating with Leila was so easy and her instructions were clear and easy to follow. Luna is very well trained cat. It was so easy and such a pleasure to look after her and stay at Leila's house. Leila was so friendly and helpful. She even let me stay with her till my next assignment. Her house is very well suite and walking distance to many restaurants, grocery stores and everything you might need. The BART is within walking distance too and only a few stops away from San Francisco. I would highly recommend Leila's place if you want to explore the Bay area or just find a little home away.
