We are looking for a mature person or couple to share and care for our large beautiful upstate New York Victorian home. Non smokers, self reliant people who would enjoy spending time in a quiet, rural , private setting.
We expect the house sitter(s) to feed one outside pet cat and a stray cat who comes for food. We expect the sitter/s to check and see that all systems stay working, heat, water, snow removal, sort mail, stay in email contact. A deposit and references are required . The sitters may use our snow blower /shovels to clear the parking area. Our road is plowed by the Town. We are at the end of a road that leads to a major road. We have privacy and accessibility.
The house is a Victorian farmhouse located in the middle of 200 acres with fields, woods, and a 5 acre pond. The property is at the end of a country road, 1/2 mile from a major road. Our road is kept open all winter by the Town road crew. The area is safe but rural. We are 4 hours north of NYC, 4 hours west of Boston and Canada, 20 miles from Cooperstown. The house is up to date, oil fired hot water heat, own well, large country kitchen, satellite TV. and 3G Internet. There are hiking and X country ski trails on the property. There is a good library, 2 nice bistros . a convenience store and restaurants in the village nearby and many places to explore. We are 12 miles from a college town with good shopping. . Photos available.
This is beautiful country but we do get snow, you need a winter ready car, and be able to enjoy quiet and nature.
We really enjoyed our Housesit at Kai and Rose's beautiful farm in NY. They were excellent hosts from clear and responsive communication and very responsive. The home was really comfortable and warm. We really enjoyed the grand piano and homey kitchen. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing was excellent. Lots of exploration and history in the Upstate area and on many day trips we enjoyed the Adirondack's, Catskills, Museums, and restaurants. The roads were cleared so that we really get around . So much history including FDR's Library, Oleanna, Cooperstown, and lots of local flavors and great little shops. Rose is a Master Gardner and Kai is a true Renaissance man, his delightful touches from stained glass art to candle holders are highlighted throughout the house. This was a great opportunity and we hope to see Rose and Kai and the amazing Red Fox Farm again in the future.
My farmhouse sit near Sharon Springs was a very pleasant experience. Kai and Rosie gave good detailed information, and were in touch to answer any questions that arose. I stayed there for a little over four months, late Dec 2018 into May 2019. One cat, Critter, is extremely affectionate. The other, Ali, stays outside, but eats and sleeps in the enclosed porch. No liter box since both cats have free roam of the farm. The house is old, but has everything that is needed to settle in and be comfortable. I experienced three months of snow cover, and did a lot of hiking through the pine forests and hills surrounding the large pond which is near the house. When Spring came, it was fun to take the rowboat out on the pond. They have a nice grand piano which I enjoyed playing. Very safe area, with neighbors who are helpful. Good place for folks who enjoy solitude, quiet, and beautiful clear night skies.
