2 dogs Sophie and Tilly, 2 cats Nina and Emma, 2 horses Maui and Rio
Looking for someone to care for 2 cats, 2 dog, 2 horses and chickens. Must be comfortable taking care of horses; feeding, haltering, leading. There are also chickens that would need to be fed. Some plants may need to be watered, depending on the weather. The dogs would need to be contained when left alone. I have a portion of the house and the front porch/fenced area for them to stay in when alone. A car is not included so you would have to rent a car.
Must be a big animal lover. I am looking for someone who would love to spend some time relaxing at home with the animals in between sight seeing. Maui has many microclimates and my house is in the rainy area keeping it cool and lush. The sun is usually just a short ride away.
Responsibilities are basically feeding the animals. They are all fed twice a day. . They come in at night. The horses have full range of the property, there is no separation between them and the house. The horses are easy going but at feeding time one of them would need to be haltered first, at least until he knows you. Therefore I need someone who is familiar with haltering and leading a horse. And of course keeping the house clean. There are also about 11 chickens that live on the property. They show up in the morning and eve to be fed. Just fyi they can be a bit noisy lol, but there are no roosters on the property. They sleep in the trees at night. They are not pets but share the property.
Emma the cat would need to get a thyroid pill twice a day. She is good about taking it in a tube treat but she will be very shy at first. You will need to take the time to let her feel comfortable with you. She will probably hide under the night stand. She will be staying in my bedroom. That bedroom will not be available for anyone to stay in. She has ptsd from living on the street. Someone shot her with a pellet gun so she is afraid of strangers.
My house is located in Haiku which is on the north shore of Maui. About 15 minutes from Hookipa beach park, about 10 minutes from Makawao. It is in a rural area with a country store at the beginning of the road. Its 2bdrm/2b 1800sq ft on 2 acres. Only one bedroom will be available. The other one is where the cats will be staying. There is wireless high speed internet,. No cable or satellite TV but there is a smart TV with Netflix, Prime and other apps.
The south side (Kihei, Wailea) is the drier area with most of the beaches. It would take about 45 minutes to get there. That is the more touristy area so staying in Haiku gives you the experience of getting away from all that and living the local lifestyle.. Since you are on the North shore you will have a head start in heading out that way.
This sit would be best suited for a morning type person since the animals are used to being fed early, Also a person with experience with horses would be great. Someone who will be patient with the animals and spend time at home with them.
No, sorry.

Fabulous Homeowner
Lisa, was wonderful to sit for. Her love of her fur and feather family is very evident. Her house is beautiful. All the animals were very friendly except her rather shy orange tabby, Lily. Having worked with animals my whole life, winning over Lily was a goal. It took a day, but there after I was able to let Lisa know how all of them were doing. Lily turned out to be a love bug. Nalu(dog) and Nina(2nd cat) were both friendly, playful, and a joy to interact with. My husband joined me for the last week. By then the bond with Lily was cemented and while momentarily scared, trusted me enough to trust him. It made not having her owner far less stressful knowing Lily was happy and well. The plumbing issue in the kitchen gave us an opportunity to meet more locals. It was such a good sit, I will always say yes. A fabulous owner with a fabulous fur/feather brood. A genuine blessing to have had the opportunity. Try to arrive during daylight hours. Only negative, but not really a negative,is the rooster at 4 a.m.....
