2 small dogs, 2 cats
My husband and I are looking for animal lovers to take care of our two small dogs, two cats and beautiful home on the edge of the Tucson Mountains. Our home is located in the Sunflower development of Continental Ranch on the Northwest side of Tucson, also known as Marana. This is an active adult community, and although it is a 55 and over community, anyone can stay short-term.
The pets need to be provided ample water, fed and cared for daily, and the dogs walked twice a day. The cat litter box needs to be cleaned every day. The pets are fed first thing in the morning, and then again around 4 or 5pm. The dogs are usually walked about an hour after they are fed, and can be taken on short or longer walks around the neighborhood and further out to the conservation area north of the development. Our younger dog can be taken on hikes and to dog parks, too.
The dogs needs to be taken out to the back yard to do their business a couple times a day. Occasional accidents of poop, pee, or vomit need to be cleaned up.
Our landscaping is on an automatic timer, but we have potted plants (both inside and out) that will need periodic watering.. Besides pets and plants, responsibilities include picking up mail and taking out garbage and recycling.
Our little ~6 pound chihuahua, Diego, is almost 14 and is now fussy about eating, so more attention needs to be given to him to entice him to eat. Our 27 pound Mexican street dog, Frida, is now three years old so is not as puppy-like and full of energy as she was. She loves to hike and run, and loves people, but is also a good couch- and bed-potato. The dogs are house trained but could have accidents if left too long.
The cats, Saki (18yo) and Samson (11yo), are both neurotic in their own way. Saki likes to whine a lot for more food and can be picky sometimes, but she likes to hang out on a lap. Samson is a big scaredy cat and usually disappears under the bed or in the closet and might not be seen for a day or two (or three). His favorite hobby is unraveling the toilet paper roll!
Our house is 2 bedroom, 2 bath, with an office and open kitchen-living-dining areas. We also have a breakfast nook with coffee bar, a cozy front patio, and a large back patio surrounded by a lush garden. Large windows let in lots of the outdoors, with garden views and some views of Sombrero Peak, distant mountain ranges, and the saguaro-covered nearby hills. There is a 2-car garage and laundry room.
The neighborhood is pleasant with friendly neighbors and lovely desert landscaping. There is a Safeway supermarket 3/4 mile away and many other nearby amenities. The freeway is a couple miles away and gets you to downtown Tucson in about 20 minutes.
A car is available to a responsible house-sitter to use if necessary, although we have only liability insurance so you would be responsible for any damage incurred.
We are in the desert, so be mindful of coyotes, bobcats, javelinas, snakes, scorpions, and other potentially dangerous creatures. Also, lots of prickly vegetation!
We do not have cable or satellite TV. We have a projector and screen for watching movies. We are subscribed to Netflix streaming services, or you can watch movies from our selection of DVDs. We do have a TV that we hardly use in the cabinet in the office, that anyone is welcome to use.
There is no home phone land line; we use our cell phones only.
May in Tucson is unpredictable, with possible hot or warm weather, but is usually quite pleasant.
My little Diego is having some health issues and may be on supplements or medicine during this house sit that need to be administered. My neighbor who regularly takes care of him can help out.
I have set up the days for the this house sit to be one day before we leave and a day after we return from our trip.
Yes
Restrictions: A sitter can bring their pet if we determine that it would work out okay for our home and pets.

Super Hosts!
Janet and Patrick were well organized and had great communication. Frieda and Diego were funny and fun to hike and chill with. Both cats Saki and Samson made their needs known and felt very comfortable with us. It was an extra bonus to experience a hummingbird nest and have 2 eggs during our stay:) Although it is an active adult community we found plenty to do from long walks to playing Bocce ball and checking out the new community pool in Marana.

Terrific Tucson Pet Sit
Sitting for Janet's menagerie was a wonderful experience. All details were sent ahead of time and a one-page checklist made everything so easy. Upon arrival I was introduced to the dogs - Frida, Diego and Ruff Ruff, as well as the two Siamese cats Saki and Samson. We went through the animals' routines and Patrick and Janet treated me to a tasty Thai dinner. In addition, Patrick gave me a free ticket to a museum where he is a docent. Each animal has a unique personality but all of them crave attention and affection which I was all too eager to provide. Their house is comfortable and organized. I had a great time and can recommend caring for this home and these animals wholeheartedly! Oh - and when they returned, Janet presented me with a bag of Nicaraguan coffee from their visit. Thumbs up all round!- Steve, Colorado, USA

Great space, lovely pets, lovely surroundings
I've enjoyed house- and pet-sitting for Janet and Patrick. Their house is lovely, their pets are cute and easy to take care of. I've loved hiking the trails around lovely cacti and getting fresh eggs every day. This is a great assignment for someone who love peace and quiet and wants to explore the Tucson area.

Had a wonderful time in Tuscon
Janet provided clear and easy instructions that made the HS assignment run on autopilot. Her 2 dogs are very affectionate and have flexible personalities (e.g., enjoy walks, hikes, lounging, etc.). The views from the home are stunning! A museum and JW Marriott nearby made for excellent date nights with my gf! About 45 minutes from the base of Mt Lemmon :)
