About this assignment
A single person or a couple who is/are reliable, clean and tidy, who will take care of our two cats and water our little front garden and our little back garden. Also people willing to communicate with us and send us updates and photos of the cats and garden. We are looking for people who will be considerate of our neighbours, because we live in a terraced house and have neighbours either side of us.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
1. To look after our two cats: to feed them twice a day and stroke, brush and talk to them (they are very affectionate); to adjust the catflap lock so they can come and go during the day; to lock the cats in at night by locking the catflap so they cannot get out; to maintain the cat litter tray- we provide poo bags and spare litter.
2. To water the houseplants if necessary.
3. To water the front and back gardens in summer- although we live in Scotland, we are in the east and it doesn't rain much.
What are the good features of the property and location
Our house is a modern townhouse and is warm and well insulated. We have recently had a new kitchen installed. The house is in a modern, stylish development with landscaped gardens and mature trees. There is free parking next to the house. We also have an allocated parking space. There is good wifi. We live a 30 minute drive from Edinburgh. It is easy to reach Edinburgh - there is a train (12 minutes' walk away) which takes 20 mins and runs twice an hour, and there is a bus 3 mins from our door which takes 45 mins, and runs every hour. There is another bus 10 mins walk away which runs every 15 mins and takes an hour. There is a Morrison's supermarket and a Lidl in the small town of Dalkeith, within 15 mins walking distance of our house. We have lovely walks and bike paths through the woods on our doorstep around Newbattle Abbey. Dalkeith Palace and the surrounding parkland is within walking distance. It is easy to reach the east coast and the wonderful beaches at North Berwick, Tyninghame and Yellow Craig.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
We live in a modern townhouse which is on three floors and there are lots of stairs, so it would not suit anyone with mobility issues. We live in a small terrace and there are neighbours on each side, so no loud music please.

Looking after Tassy and Roddy
My husband and I stayed for nearly 2 weeks in Rosie and Stephens house to look after Roddy and Tassy. These are 2 very friendly and well trained cats.(Although Tassy sometimes preferred to use the space next to the litter tray????) They didn’t do things like jumping on the counter when preparing food or scratch on the bedroom door. Although we only met Rosie in a video call, we had good contact and her instructions were elaborate, which I like. The surroundings are beautiful and there is more than enough to do everyday if you like walking, going to the beach, visit cute little towns and Edinburgh is a great city. When going to Edinburgh we took the double decker bus, the other places we visited by car and you can also walk from the house to some nice parks. The double bed sleeps great and the shower is fine too.

Lovely cats and housesit
Had a very nice 3 night stay at Rosie and Stephen's place. Their lovely cats, Roddy and Tassy are very friendly and sociable and soon got used to me being there. They very soon felt comfortable with me and were jumping up and sitting on my lap the next day! Although I never met Rosie in person, I spoke to her on a WhatsApp video message. She emailed me very good instructions about the cats and home. Their home is in a very nice, quiet area and you can walk to the town and shops easily from theirs. Also the bus into Edinburgh City centre is just a few minutes walk away and takes about 20 minutes to get to the centre. Their home is very comfortable and modern and there is a lovely, sunny back garden to sit out in and enjoy (when it wasn't raining!) The cats are great fun and easy to care for and hope to see them again sometime soon. Am sure you will enjoy this housesit because although it's a quiet area, it doesn't take long to get you into the city and other places. Would definitely recommend this place.
