About this assignment

Reliable and responsible couple or single who loves cats and can look after a 2 bedroom house and garden just outside Pontevedra Spain in vineyard area of Salnes. Non smokers only please. Bedrooms are up a short flight of stairs. A car would be most helpful for you. Our dates are somewhat flexible.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feeding our cat and looking after our house and garden. Our cat is 12 years old, very healthy and loves plenty of attention as she is quite affectionate!

What are the good features of the property and location

Our semi-rural house is in the vineyard area of Salnes, 15 minutes north of Pontevedra. We have fibre optic internet and good wifi thru-out the house and central heating via a pellet boiler. Kitchen has dishwasher, oven, microwave, etc. Big terrace outside for outdoor dining.
The beaches of Galicia are a big attaction as are the many wineries nearby. Pine and eucalyptus forests cover the hills, right down to the sea. Santiago de Campostela is a 40 minute drive away. Nearest village is down the hill in O Mosteiro where there are two small grocery stores and a saturday local market. Pontevedra (15min away) has loads of tapas bars and plenty of shopping. Sanxenxo (20 min away) is the "San Tropez" of Galicia.
Climate change has made Galicia an undiscovered gem!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Own transportation is highly recommended. Extra pellets for the boiler/central heating may need to be purchased if you like a very warm house.
Ninny is healthy, and prefers plenty of attention. She comes in and goes out often during the day and prefers to sleep inside at night.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Galicia house sit

We recently completed a house-sitting stay at this lovely property and truly enjoyed caring for the two lovely cats….Ninnie always affectionate, Spencer kept a distance initially, then became our best friend. The home is situated in a great spot, with historical places to visit and the owners kindly provided very helpful information about local attractions, walks, and places to eat, which we really appreciated. Future house-sitters should be aware that the region can experience quite a bit of rain and damp weather, so coming prepared for that will make the stay more comfortable. It’s also worthwhile to have a clear conversation with the owners ahead of time regarding expectations and responsibility for heating costs, just to make sure everyone is on the same page. Overall, we enjoyed the pets, the area, and the thoughtful guidance provided.” Kathryn and Brian

Cozy house with 2 lovely cats

We had a wonderful time with Robert and Kim. The house is really cozy! It’s only a 20-minute drive to Pontevedra or the beach. The cats are very easy to take care of and super relaxed. As wine experts, Robert and Kim shared so many interesting facts and stories with us about wine. We would come back anytime! Highly recommended!

Returning to Galicia

Return house sit in Galicia, Early summer road trip to see our furry friends and catch up with Kim & Robert, thanks again for asking us to return to your beautiful part of the world and catch up with the cats! We relaxed a little more this trip, but equally enjoyed our beach trips and of course the delicious seafood Galicia has to offer. Your tranquil garden is a great space to potter and relax. We hope our assistance with the airport transfers helped to get your trip off to a relaxing start. Our journey to and from your property was very smooth and we can’t thank you enough for giving us the chance to see the the most beautiful coastal scenery and landscape that the north of Spain has on offer. Also a new journey through different regions in France gave us a glimpse into the country from another perspective. Many thanks again. Alan & Lorraine

Caring for two delightful cat in Galicia

May 2023 in Galicia. We have been completely blown away with the amazing location of this house sit in Galicia, Spain. The area is stunningly beautiful, the coastline was diverse and exciting. The seafood is delicious and local eateries are in abundance, not forgetting the Albariño wine, which is produced in the area making you feel you are actually living in a vineyard. We were fortunate to have been accepted by Kim and Robert to look after their two beautiful cat in Galicia. The arrangements went to plan and we arrived late afternoon, giving us time to see the property and meet the cats. We enjoyed a dinner out with Kim and Robert and a quick introduction to the area. They were always available if we needed any assistance and we kept in touch during the sit to reassure them the cats were doing well. The garden is beautiful and the outside area is tranquil and relaxing to come back to after a day out exploring and walking in the area. Anyone who gets a chance to enjoy this house sit will not be disappointed we would certainly love to return again. Thank you both for introducing us to this beautiful area in Spain.

A wonderful housitting experience

Spending a couple of weeks at Kim's and Robert's place with Ninny and Spencer (their two cats) was a wonderful experience. While Ninny loves company, Spencer is more independent, but they are both adorable and very easy going. Kim and Robert were great hosts: we had dinner together the night before they left and they explained everything in detail. They also have comprehensive written instructions for the housitters (including recommendations for great restaurants in the area: you can find amazing food in Galicia!) and kept in touch while away. Their house in Meis is very nice and renovated, with super friendly neighbours who will generously give you eggs from their chickens! Kim and Robert also have a good garden with a variety of fruit and vegetables. Their home is very well located to visit interesting places like the beautiful Armenteira Monastery (founded in the XII century) , Cambados (the centre of the Albarino wine region), Sanxenxo (popular for its beaches), the islands of Arousa and A Toxa... Cities like Pontevedra, Vigo or Santiago are also easily reachable by car if you would like to see more of Galicia, which is a beautiful place (and luckily not very well known for international tourism yet, apart from the pilgrims of the Camino). In summary, an amazing housesitting experience! I can't recommend Kim and Robert enough: they are the kindest hosts and really nice people.

Lovely house cats and Couple

We looked after Kim and Roberts cats and house and garden for 5 weeks. They are a lovely couple and always on the end of the phone if needed. The cats are easy to care for and Nobby is a delight i still miss him, he is a character. The town of Sanlucar is a beautiful and historical town lots to see and do and also in the surrounding areas. They have a lovely home. We had a wonderful stay and would return at a drop of the hat depending on our schedule.
