About this assignment
Enjoy a quiet autumn retreat in Brittany! We are seeking a dependable house sitter (or couple) for three weeks in October 2026 and also in February 2027. Our quiet home is shared with two adorable Golden Retrievers, four cuddly rescue cats, eight gentle Jacobs sheep, and four elderly but productive hens. If you would enjoy a restful break surrounded by scenic countryside and a cute collection of animals, we would love to hear from you!
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Seeking a house sitter who will treat our animals as their own, offering the daily care, companionship, and warm attention they are used to. Daily routines are simple: walking the dogs, feeding everyone, and locking up the hen house securely at dusk. Our independent cats love a friendly presence at mealtime, while the sheep are largely self-contained and just need their water checked and hay topped up. Beyond caring for our animal family, general home care is light—just keeping things tidy and bringing in the post. We also have a cleaner who comes three mornings a week to handle the heavy lifting. Above all, we’d love a kindly, dependable sitter who can send frequent WhatsApp photo updates so we can enjoy our trip knowing everyone is happy at home.

Equipped with high-speed fiber internet, it’s ideal for a digital nomad, remote worker, or anyone who enjoys seamless streaming. Set along a quiet, accessible road, the property enjoys open space, clear night skies with zero light pollution, and absolute tranquility—yet a local village for daily basics is just a mile away, and the nearest town is a short ten-minute drive. You can step directly outside for scenic country walks, explore neighboring Breton villages and beaches, or simply relax into a calm, simple pace of life.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Date Flexibility: Our dates are currently very flexible! If your availability doesn't match October 2026 exactly, please reach out anyway, as we may be able to adjust our travel plans or discuss potential alternative dates.
Rural Countryside Setting: We live in a quiet, rural area surrounded by nature. A vehicle (either your own or a rental) is essential for getting around, shopping, and exploring the wider region comfortably.
Routine & Multi-Species Care: While the overall pace is very relaxing, caring for dogs, cats, sheep, and hens does require a steady daily routine—including morning/evening feeding, walking the dogs, and locking the hens in safely before dark.
Comfort with Animals: Sitters should feel comfortable around larger dogs, curious cats, and farm animals like sheep and poultry.

Beautiful little hobby farm.
We spent two months looking after this beautiful little hobby farm. Diane, Tamsin and Magdy made us feel very welcomed and provided a lovely dinner upon our arrival. We came several days ahead, as suggested, to learn the routine. The home is quite comfortable and very well equipped. There’s a LOT of information sharing required with all of the different animals and the nuances of caring for everything. There is a good information sheet provided but it takes a good week to get into the routine. Communication with the group on WhatsApp is fundamental during the sit because there will be times when you’ll need to ask questions. They were very responsive and we felt well supported. Once you get into the routine and learn all of the different schedules and personalities of the pets, it does get easier; however, we highly recommend having two people to divide the workload and experience with poultry and sheep is definitely an asset. CJ does have some experience with poultry and swine so it certainly came in handy. Don’t worry, the menagerie know the schedule and will signal when their treats are due. 😊 As Diane writes on the listing, this is a working house sit so if you’re wanting to spend a lot of your time site seeing, this one isn’t for you. Having said that, with some forward planning and tweaking of the schedule a bit, it is possible to make short trips to explore once in a while. We were able to get to a couple of the places Diane mentions in the listing such as Valley of the Saints and Huelgoat Forest; The Gouffre, should not be missed if you like walking and hiking. It’s stunning. The studio pets are easy to care for and Zen stole my (Michele) heart 💙. I spent the afternoons with him walking and then snuggling in the quiet loft of the studio. Frankie is elusive but likes his dinner so he will make his appearance in the evening. Arthur is independent but will let you cuddle with him when you’ve earned his trust. Oriel gives the best hugs and head boops when being adored. Louis and MaoMao are just so sweet and cuddly, they’ll be your constant companions, along with the Goldens Lottie and Liam, throughout the day until bedtime. The Goldens love to be petted. 🥰 They follow commands like heel, come, and stay better than most dogs we’ve looked after. Lottie can be cheeky but she’s cute so it’s ok. And, if you’re a working nomad, the wifi is the best we’ve encountered.
