House and pet minding in West Cork, several weeks, autumn 2024

About this assignment

We are looking for an individual or couple who needs to be able to drive and have some enthusiasm for a quiet rural life and to enjoy the company of animals.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The dog is a 14 year old golden retriever, so very affectionate and gentle. He still enjoys walks twice daily and company. The cat is very gentle and sociable. There is also a cold water fish tank with 9 fish involving minimal work. Grass, weeds, trees flowers and vegetables all grow in the garden - so some attention is necessary.

What are the good features of the property and location

It's a peaceful rural area with good neighbours so can be enjoyed on foot. Macroom is 7km, Cork city, Killarney national park or the sea are all about 40km in different directions, although there are lovely places nearer than that. The garden is varied and has decking and outdoor furniture for the sunshine and a polytunnel with seating for poorer weather. The house has Freeview (UK)satellite TV as well as national, and satellite broadband. There is also an infrared sauna to help with really bad weather.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Must love animals and going for walks with dog. Ideal to have own car but can use ours. Must be respectful to neighbours and general care of house and prepared to do some gardening. We can't accept other dogs as we are surrounded by sheep. (the cat also does not like other dogs – or cats) If you smoke, please do so outside. You will need to be able to drive. If you can drive and do not have a car you can use ours - if that is practical in terms of insurance, (we may require you to pay for extra insurance - this depends on what the insurance company says).
The local weather can be disappointing.
