About this assignment

I am looking for a housesitter couple to take care of my house and cat “Grisou” and four hens (at last count)from May 04 to May 31 2026. My housesitters will have DIY and gardening skills and be familiar with home and garden power tools.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

I would like them to take care of general maintenance both in and outside the house and to undertake a few jobs such as treating outdoor furniture, strimming and underbrush clearance, hedge clipping and generally keeping things tidy and shipshape. Normally I cover the pool in autumn, but if you want to use it you will have to take care of maintaining it. Not a big deal!

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is located in a hilltop hamlet with lovely rural views. It is a comfortable house with a heat pump, a 200l immersion heater and log fire, three bedrooms all with bath or shower. We have broadband and Freeview UK TV. Phone calls to most locations are free except to mobiles. The nearest village is a few minutes away by car and the autoroute brings Nice, Hyeres, St. Tropez, Aix-en-Provence within 1 hour's drive. It is wonderful walking, cycling country with many beautiful hilltop villages to visit. We have lovely neighbours who will always lend a hand when required.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This period is the spring so possibly one of the nicest times of the year to be in Provence. You will need a car. No pets please. We will review all applicants and hopefully communicate via Skype before making a decision

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

A lovely sit in Le Thoronet/Côte d' Azur

We did this housesit for Jeremy, who lives in the wonderful Var department at the Côte d' Azur. The house was serrounded by a big garden with a pool and a hens with 5 chickens. They surprised us with 4 eggs every day. Grizou the cat is a very independent one and he comes and goes when he likes to do so. Jeremy welcomed us with a nice glas of wine and a lovely cooked meal. He made us feel at home right away. There was a lot of work to do in the garden, but it was up to us to do what we were able to. Ofcourse we did as many as possible but we also had enough time to explore all the lovely little places and their markets. At the coast we visited Monaco, Nice, Cannes and Marseille. We had a lovely stay during nearly 6 weeks. Although the weather was a bit instable in april/may we would love to come again.

A lovely housesit all round!

We’ve been housesitting for the Frankel’s many many times over the last decade...surely testament in itself that it’s wonderful! Jeremy is a warm-hearted animal lover, we were made to feel at home immediately, the first time we arrived all those years ago. Grisou, the cat was new to us last visit, but very quickly warmed to us, he’s a great cat, fun to be around but not too demanding. There are usually chickens to look after too, pretty straightforward even without prior knowledge. The house is up on a wooded ridge with beautiful views, a large garden ( some of which is wooded), quite a way from things but with a number of friendly neighbours close by. The village is about 5 mins drive with a few essentials and then maybe 15 min drive to a town with big supermarkets etc. I would say you definitely need your own transport here. The hose is very comfortable with so much of interest and loads of books. There is usually plenty of garden pottering opportunities, strimming,, weeding, chopping and stacking wood etc. Jeremy also has a pool, so depending on season, possibility of swimming (and basic pool maintenance). This is a beautiful and magical place to housesit, with a brilliant cat and we always return if we are available.
