About this assignment
We are looking for couple or friends with plenty of initiative, a sense of adventure and good communication skills. Able to build a fire and deal with occasional electricity and water cuts. Enjoying a rural existence in a small village with mainly elderly residents speaking only Bulgarian.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
To care for our 4 rescue dogs and 8 cats. All the animals live outside during the day (unless it is very cold). Four of the dogs and up to 4 of the cats sleep inside but the cats are outdoor cats (mostly) so sleep outside in the warmer weather. The dogs get taken for a good walk in the morning and are fed late afternoon.
What are the good features of the property and location
Amazing landscapes and scenery. Interesting local sights and close to the borders with Greece and Northern Macedonia. Less than a two houur drive to the Northern Greek sea. Also similar times to both Sofia and Thessaloniki. Regular bus and train services. Small shop and bar in the village.Many local hiking and biking opportunities
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Nearest main shops are about 12-15 km away. Buses run a couple of times daily through the village. Most local people only speak Bulgarian. We have a reliable car for you to use if you have a suitable driving licence

We had a great time
We had a great time taking care of dogs & cats of Kromidovo! We enjoyed our break in the countryside and the company of so many pets. The daily walks with the dogs were enjoyable, it's a very beautiful area. We liked visiting with the cats, some more eager for attention than others. It might seem like a lot of animals, but it was an easy and smooth operation. The guest apartment where we stayed was lovely. We really enjoyed making a wood fire when needed - it was cozy! The internet was great & high speed (we both work remotely so very helpful). Sara warned of occasional water & power outages, but there was only one very brief (less than 5 mins) power outage that we notice. Sara & John were very welcoming and easy to communicate with. We really enjoyed this sit and would highly recommend to any pet lover looking for a relaxing escape in Bulgaria! 4 8

A true pleasure
Our house-sitting at Kromidovo Camping has been a true pleasure. The hosts, John and Sara, are absolutely delightful and very accommodating. The location for the house-sit centered on a quiet countryside campground (a setting that is closed during the winter) within a small, friendly village of about 100 people. This gave us the solitude we were wanting for our experience. The responsibilities include caring for 7 dogs and 6 or 7 independent cats. We fed all the animals once a day, frolicked with all the animals at our leisure, and walked the dogs once a day in the beautiful countryside of many hiking trails, an extinct volcano, multiple snow capped mountains ranges, expansive vineyards, and beautiful wine estates. The work-load for the animal care took about 2 – 2.5 hours per day depending on the length of our walks. The animals are all easy to attend to and very loving. The animals are mostly outdoors or in the min house during the colder evenings. The house-sit includes a full two bedroom apartment that is completely separated from the animals is above the main house. The very comfortable and cozy apartment is fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, and wood burning stove. The owners allowed us use of their car and spent the entire first day with us to show us all the responsibilities, the local shop, and the nearby city of Sandanski which we could drive to (18 km) and get anything we needed. The are also many local attractions well worth exploring which include wineries, monasteries, the tourist town of Melnik, and a very interesting historic automobile collection museum. The situation is perfect for spending quiet time that allows for an authentic escape from the daily modern technological trappings but still allowed us high-speed internet for our remote work access. The house is very comfortable and gave us all the items we needed to stay quietly sheltered during our stay and enjoy the countryside. Most important is the wonderful reception and trust we received from John and Sara. They provided all the information and resources we needed, answered every question we had, went out of their way to guide us in our preparation and arrival, and allowed us trusted use of their home and automobile (which gave us more free access to the local setting).

We had a great time minding the dogs & cats at Sara & Johns home. Our daily walks around the dormant grape vines under the snow capped mountains gave us great joy. The animals are well organised for their walk & food routine & we didn’t really feel it was a chore at all. We loved staying in the old village but the house has all modern conveniences & was easy living too. We thank Sara & John for choosing us & wish them the best.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience
We spent over five weeks house-sitting for Sara and John and had an absolutely wonderful experience! They are some of the kindest and most generous people I have ever met and they always went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we could possibly need before, during, and even after our stay. The house and surrounding area are lovely, it's situated in a gorgeous wine-country valley with awesome opportunities for hiking and great volcanic hot springs nearby. The dogs and cats are wonderful and we enjoyed every minute with them. They each have their own very distinct personalities each more fun and adorable than the last! It was very hard to say goodbye, to say the least. Overall we would very highly recommend this sit to anyone and everyone who may be lucky enough to get the chance!! (Thanks again John and Sara!!)
