3 horses and 4 cows.
You need to have experience and feel confident looking after large animals cows and or horses. We have 3 small Asturcon horses (Panchito, Fumo and Pear), 4 casina cattle (small mountain breed), 3 dogs (Otis a large mastin, Indie a medium sized Grifon, Bumba a small terrier), 1 house cat Mango, 20 or so chickens, 10 ducks, 5 geese (give or take on the birds)
Checking the horses and cows have water. Feeding the birds and dogs and letting them out in the morning and putting them to bed at night. Once a week they will need cleaning out. Feeding/watering Mango and giving him lots of cuddles, he will need his litter tray cleaned once a week. Our animals are part of the family so caring for them will be your main responsibility. But most of these jobs are first thing in the morning, last thing in the evening jobs which leaves you with the rest of the day to explore.
Our finca looks like it is in the middle of nowhere, and there are the most astonishing walks right outside of the back door. But it is also a 5 minute drive/25 minute walk to the cute little town of Arriondas where you have numerous restaurants and shops. You are also a 20 minute drive from the sea, and a 20 minute drive from the Picos de Europa.
Photos of the inside of our home can be sent on request.
It is important you have experience and feel confident with large animals.
A grasp of Spanish would be helpful.
We haven't had housesitters for quite a few years so the review from the previous housesitters are a bit dated as we now have very good wifi (we both work remotely), and there are no goats anymore!
No, sorry.

A stunning secluded location with a plethora of friendly animals
The location of this house sit is divinely beautiful, in the hills above the friendly town of Arriondas. I arrived (in my motorhome) in the pouring rain, but was met halfway up the road by Luke, who guided me in very carefully. I was then made to feel most welcome. Luke gave me a detailed tour of the animals and everything outside of the house, and then Katie showed me the inside. Later in the afternoon, she took me (and Indie, the very friendly and boisterous puppy) around the main walk… after which I was invited to a delicious evening meal. … if there are other walks, I failed to find them, although as it was cold and wet most days, I also didn’t go looking too hard. Mally (the cat) was easy. He lives in the dairy under the house and, apart from putting down food, he pretty well took care of himself. He did, however, come in for cuddles on a couple of occasions. The goats, Coco and Pan were delightful (I love goats), but as goats tend to be, were accomplished escape artists… this proved no problem, as they always stayed on the property and were easy to get back in to their enclosure with a little food. The chickens and ducks have an automatic door which meant that I didn’t have to worry about letting them out in the morning and only had to check that all were present and correct in the evening. They also supplied me with delicious free-range eggs, which was a great bonus. The house is very comfortable, with radiators and a log burner (although the latter was out of order while I was there). The kitchen is well equipped, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean and tidy. There is Internet, with WIFI, although not high speed. However, mobile signal is poor to non-existent, so if you need to be connected 24/7 this could be a drawback. Our daily communication was via Whatsapp, which working via WIFI, was perfect. The property has a LOT of potential and I look forward to seeing what Luke and Katie do with it in the upcoming years. This house sit is very secluded, which was one of its attractions for me. Do NOT apply for it if you don’t like being well away from the madding crowd. However, if you like peace and quiet and solitude, with just the animals for company, this sit may be the perfect fit. A word of warning – if you have a motorhome – entry is very tight and you have to leave up a steep hill. Mine measures 5.3 meters… anything much larger would definitely have a problem fitting in. Any other vehicle will be fine.

Beautiful Area of Northern Spain
Katie and Luke are a very energetic and adventuresome young couple. We took care of their developing farm for 4 weeks in the fall of 2019. They have a new small home, that they had built on top of an existing barn foundation. It is well equipped for two people and we enjoyed using the wood fireplace on the chilly mornings and rainy days. They had a welcome dinner with neighbors and friends, introducing us to people that we could call on for help if needed. The location of their farm is absolutely beautiful! We looked forward to the hiking we did almost every day, from mountain tops to along the ocean. They have a small utility car that we used, which was essential to do shopping in town and the day trips that we took. The animals were fun for us to take care of, albeit the goats were a challenge to keep in a fenced area.
