Rural home on 10-acres located on the edge of the Burro Mountains, Gila National Forest,NM

About this assignment

We welcome singles or couples to watch after our house in rural, SW New Mexico. A vehicle is important as we are located 20 miles outside Silver City (one of our vehicles could be available, if necessary.)

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We have house plants and (when not Winter) a very few outdoor plants that will need occasional watering. We'll leave a key for mail and newspaper pick up. We no longer have pets to watch. We also ask that house sitters clean up after themselves and leave the house/property as they found it. We cannot accommodate tobacco users.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our home is a 3Bdr, 2.5-Bath on 10-acres of land on the SW edge of the Burro Mountains, the most SW portion of the Gila National Forest, and approximately 1-6 miles from several sections of the Continental Divide Trail. It is quiet, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, outstanding hiking all over the place, sites to visit within a few miles to an hour or so distance and located 20-miles from Silver City. Electricity is generated 100% from solar, but we are on the grid. We have good WiFi and "streaming" TV. Silver is a town of 8-10,000 residents sitting at an altitude of around 6,000 ft. with a small university, an array of activities, cultural sites, plenty of monthly or annual events that draw far-reaching crowds (including the Memorial Day WkEnd annual Silver City Blues Fest followed a week or less later by the annual Rodeo), a spot of funkiness and a strong artsy scene. It is not high-falutin' by any stretch of the imagination, and the restaurant and bar environment are somewhat limited, but fun. The town sits on the edge of around 3-million acres of Gila National Forest and Wilderness lands with the local Gila River in the running for Wild and Scenic Rivers designation.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Are you comfortable 20-miles from town? We have plenty of neighbors, but we are on 10-acres and on the edge of the SW forest. There are wild animals in the forest. Is your health such that living at an altitude of 6,000 - 6,300 feet will not have an adverse effect? If you choose, hikes may take you even higher in altitude. Do you have a vehicle? Are you OK with low key?
We will want to talk with you via Zoom (or the like) and will request a copy of a government issue ID of some sort. Due to severe allergies, we can not accommodate cats, and indoor dogs will need to be discussed on an individual basis.
