About this assignment

Patience and kindness. It would be useful to have dealt with rescue dogs. Both dogs are very gentle, but quite timid until they get to know you. Maisie is the more out going of the two, Molly may go and hide under our bed, but will come around eventually.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Looking after 2 rescue, female (spayed) dogs, 1 grumpy cat and 4 hens.
Feeding and exercising the two dogs. Exercising can take the form of a walk in the forest, or games in the garden. Poo picking! Feeding the grumpy cat. Feeding and cleaning out the chickens and collecting and eating the eggs.
Watering some plants in the garden if it’s very dry.

What are the good features of the property and location

Old stone house, fully renovated open plan layout inside. It has heat pump heating/air con and a wood burner. 15-20min walk through the forest to Grand Etang La Jemaye.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

You will need a car. 10km to nearest supermarché. It’s a very quiet rural area. We do have very friendly neighbours, both French and English speaking.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Peaceful haven in comfy house with adorable pets

We house and pet set for Bill and Sandie in December last year and it was a very enjoyable experience. The two dogs are very easy to look after despite some behavioural issues due to their backgrounds (Freddie likes to bark at passing cars and Molly takes a while to get used to you and to come out of her shell). Harry the car does as he pleases and will happily sit on your lap all evening but doesn't always tolerate a lot of petting! The chickens are very easy to look after as they have a purpose built hen house with automatic door and are easy to clean and maintain. The house itself is deceptively large with a nicely laid out garden and grounds and plenty of areas to sit and relax. Although quite modern the house still has lots of character and we found it very comfortable and well equipped. The property backs onto a large open meadow which is surrounded by woodland and the dogs are happy either running around in the meadow or walking through the forest. It's a very tranquil location but there are several nearby towns for shopping or sightseeing. Bill and Sandie themselves were very friendly and helpful and kept in regular contact with us, answering any questions we had in a timely manner. We have no hesitation in recommending this house-sit to other potential sitters.
