About this assignment

CAT SIT ON OTTAWA RIVER!  We are looking for a quiet, respectful, clean, responsible non-smoking person or couple to take care of our cat and home. Prefer references however willing to give new house sitters an opportunity. Prefer someone who doesn't mind having Toby sleep at your feet and ok that he may wake you up meowing!

Please no smoking in the house, no illegal drugs, no children, no other guests allowed.

Your responsibilities will be to ensure he has food, fresh water and attention daily. Clean litter box every 1-2 days.

He can be left along up to 24 hours at a time. We love him very much and need to make sure we find the right person who will take great care of him while we're away. We're ok if you wish to day trip to nearby attractions or an overnight to Ottawa or somewhere else nearby, etc.

We have a small home in the quiet residential neighbourhood of Laurentian Valley, on the Ottawa River. It has a yard and is generally very peaceful. The neighbours are friendly, quiet, and non-intrusive. The surrounding area has lots of hiking/snowshoeing and biking (fatbiking too!) trails, flat and whitewater paddling options and skating trails in winter. The guest bedroom has a queen bed with ceiling fan. Air conditioning for summer sits. For winter there is central heat.

Washer and dryer are on-site. There is parking in the driveway as we suggest a rental car if you do not have your own.

To give an idea of what is near the house:
5-15 minute drive to the nearest grocery store and gas station.
15-20 minute drive to local bakery, restaurants, shopping.
No public bus system.
About 1 hour drive into Algonquin Park.
About 15 minute drive to nearest big box stores (Walmart).
About 1.5 hours drive to Ottawa airport.
About 30 minute drive to beaches in Petawawa and many trails.

There is netflix (no cable TV) and WiFi. Cell and data service can be poor in certain areas of the home depending on provider. Internet is reliable, I work from home so you can too if need be.

Air and ground transportation are not provided however we can pick up and drop off at the nearest bus station. You can rent a car if you do not have your own. This is a non-payment exchange.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Toby is an 8 year old neutered male and is an inside cat only. He loves attention, chin rubs, to play and to cuddle up on your legs. He's happy to sleep by your feet and let you know when it's morning with some meows!

Your responsibilities will be to ensure they have food, fresh water and some attention daily. Clean litter box every 1-2 days.

Wonderful people, cats & home

When we applied for Steve & Paula’s sit, we had an opportunity to ‘meet’ with Paula via Face Time for an extensive discussion of our interest & their setting, affording us each a sound introduction to one another. When we arrived the day before Paula & Steve’s departure, they provided a thorough introduction to their home & Kitty issues, including detailed written guides, along with a delicious dinner & easy conversation. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Toby & Charlie, two fine cats with – of course – distinct personalities. Toby – the extrovert, ready to cozy up, playful & hilarious to watch. Charlie, the calico with the softest fur ever...more reticent until her trust is earned…then oh so cuddly. Paula & Steve are clearly committed to enjoying & caring for their cats who have the most extensive supply of cat toys & facilities we’ve ever encountered. Steve & Paula’s home has large windows overlooking the Ottawa River, & is immaculate & well maintained. Paula & Steve were very accessible through the duration of our sit, available to assist with any issues arising, including our learning to administer Charlie’s oral meds most effectively….the video helped. A few kilometers away is the town of Pembroke, with a full range of services, & some class food outlets such as Smeckers [Bakery], The Creperie Nook [restaurant], Ullrich’s [Butcher],…. Here’s hoping we can have a return engagement down the road! Cindy Lou & David too
