What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Care of our home, pool, gardens and our four dogs, a Westie named Mia, who requires administration of medication (1/2 tablet daily), our rescue dogs, Cooper, a biggish hound, Daisy, a laid back sort of Grand Basset, and the last member of the pack, Rucca a gentle Podengo, the most recent edition to the pack.
What are the good features of the property and location
Riverside location, semi rural, with private pool, Internet. Close to shops/supermarkets and the town of Monçao, on the border to Spain. There is also numerous country/woodland walks in the immediate vicinity. A small car is available for trips to the local shops etc.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
We are looking for a house sit from 08 ~ 22 September 2024. Also we are both non smokers and maintain a no smoker policy within the house. The dogs are the main commitment and require care and attention. We can provide mountain bikes and there is immediate access to woodland and country walks. We do have a fairly large walled in garden, which would require some maintenance- simply keeping the lawn tidy, and maintaining/using any available vegetables and fruit in the vegetable garden (not much at this time of year). Basic pool maintenance and ensuring the pool and surroundings are kept clean and functional. The local supermarkets are 2.0k distance, driving. The beaches are 30-40 minutes by vehicle.

Beautiful Pack, beautiful home, beautiful people
Mike & Eli could not be kinder or more accommodating. They are terrific hosts! We were made to feel welcome long before we arrived. Their home is spectacular; clean and comfortable, with all the mod cons. Mike cooked wonderful meals for us and Eli is a brilliant baker! I pride myself on leaving a home cleaner than I found it. Couldn’t be done here; I hope I managed “as clean as”. And this is with four dogs of various sizes, breeds and temperaments! They keep rescuing dogs in need, and each pup knows that they’ve found safe haven and behaves accordingly. You will quickly find yourself falling for all of them; Shy Rucca, Lazy Daisy, Alpha Cooper, and little Miss Mia. They also took the time to show us around the area. The nearby town is literally across the river from Spain. They showed us a selection of the various walks the pack enjoys in the beautiful countryside. Communication was clear, easy and thorough from beginning to end. We highly recommend this sit and would be happy to return.

Could not have been more lucky.
Mike and Ellie, who we felt comfortable with immediately and made us very welcome even though they had family staying too when we arrived, have a lovely home and the dogs are great company. The location is amazing. In the country, by a river beach, lots of walks with shade too. The shops, proper supermarkets, were only a 10 or 15 minute cycle away. The lovely town of Monçao a little further. The whole region is gorgeous. However, we loved the dogs and the property so much we barely left there, this suited them (the furries) and us perfectly. The five weeks flew by! We hope to visit or sit for the Hill family again sometime it would be good to catch up. Janie , Bob and Izzy

Super Portuguese house sit.
We have cared for Mike and Eli’s home and dogs on three occasions with each being a marvellous experience. PETS Mia is a West Highland Terrier and is truly a delight. She is friendly, obedient and most of all very funny. Daily walks are taken from the house and Mia can be off lead. Sadly her buddy Gus has since passed away and we have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Cooper but he sounds like a super addition to the household. HOUSE Mike and Eli’s home is beautiful. It is spacious and tastefully furnished with a pool and plenty of outside seating to enjoy the views. It is a very comfortable, lovely home. It is situated overlooking vineyards on the outskirts of Moncao (not Monaco) in northern Portugal. A car is needed as there is no public transport. Even though it is semi rural the internet signal is good and the house does have British TV. THE HOME OWNERS Both Mike and Eli are British, extremely personable and welcoming. Having used house sitters on numerous occasions they know exactly what information the house sitter needs. Everything is explained in detail from the pool operation to the meals and exercise routine for the dogs. SUMMARY Mike and Eli are smashing people who truly know and love their dogs. In our opinion, any prospective house sitter would be fortunate to be invited into their home.
