About this assignment

We are looking for the services of a responsible and reliable dog-loving house sitter. We have two dogs and a cat who need to be walked, fed and cared for. There are open fields and woods nearby – so you will need walking shoes. We would like you to have had experience of looking after dogs and you need to be a cat lover too.
You will definitely need to be able to drive as the house in in a rural hamlet. We have a vehicle you can use.
We would like you to be able to keep the house clean and tidy!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We have a Border Collie called Zak who is 13 and a a mixed-breed dog called Daisy who is 4. We are taking Daisy with us on our Trip. They require a walk every morning. After that, if we are at home, they stay in the garden all day. In the evening, they come in the house until bed time. They are fed last thing at night. They have their own room for sleeping in in the evening. We have a beautiful cat called Pumpy who loves people - she is adorable!
We would like you to water the garden in the summer if it doesn’t rain. For summer house sits we would need you to mow the lawn and harvest (and eat!) the vegetables.

What are the good features of the property and location

• The weather in France is usually excellent.
• The house is very warm and comfortable and nicely decorated.
• There is a large garden which is very private.
• There is a patio area at the front of the house and also a covered dining area on the patio in the garden. This is a “summer kitchen” with Big Green Egg to cook on and a fridge.
• We have a Smart TV which gets English TV and Netflix
• The kitchen is brand new with the usual kitchen gadgets such as a dishwasher, bread maker, food processer, nutribullet etc.
• There are so many wonderful places to explore in the Dordogne.
• There are swimming lakes near by .
• The two sets of neighbours are lovely people.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Our home is a rural property which is 1.5 miles from the nearest village. The village has a boulangerie (which is excellent), a bar, a restaurant and a church. It does not have a shop.
The Supermarkets are approx. 7 miles away in Nontron. There is a Lidl, a Super U and an Intermarche. You will need to have a car.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Highly recommended place !

I had a wonderful experience house-sitting for Jo and Ali. They have a beautiful, comfortable home with modern amenities, filled with charm and character. Their garden is tranquil, featuring a summer kitchen, a pond, and a delightful vegetable and herb garden from which I was lucky enough to pick fresh produce. I enjoyed sunbathing on a deck chair listening to frogs and birds... During my stay, I cared for their lovely dog, Zak, and their cat, Pumpy, while they took Daisy on their trip. Zak and Pumpy were a joy to look after—both very easygoing pets. Zak’s walks were especially convenient, thanks to a vehicle-free path right by the house, making it a breeze to let him walk off-lead. Although their home is in a peaceful, rural hamlet, it’s only a short drive to local supermarkets and a variety of nearby restaurants. Exploring the countryside does require a car, but it’s well worth it. Jo and Ali were incredibly welcoming, and I felt at ease right away. They provided clear instructions for looking after the house and pets, and communication with them was smooth throughout. Their home was imaculate, both inside and out, making it a truly relaxing and enjoyable stay. I was able to sleep very well. Nights are silent. Also, their neighbor Yves is a very nice person. I would absolutely return—it was a fantastic experience!

Wonderful rural stay with 3 dogs and a cat

Jo and Alli have a gorgeous home in a rural hamlet in the Dordogne. I looked after their 3 dogs and the beautiful cat Pumpy for 2 weeks, and felt right at home from day one. Their house is immaculately renovated and full of character with loads of outdoor space. The dogs were great company and easy to look after as was Pumpy. Walking was simple as a path leads from the garden straight to a scenic track which passes some ponds. Daisy is super agile and a great swimmer and especially loves to play catch in the water. Zak and Charlie are older but love to play too, although they are very gentlemanly and always let Daisy win (not that she gives them a chance anyway!) I also took Daisy for a few longer outings as there are many tracks nearby to explore. It's a beautiful and peaceful area and I really enjoyed my stay. Jo and Alli were very kind and welcoming and provided great instructions and information about their home, pets and area. Everything was well organised, super clean and tidy and communication was easy. The perfect place for a restful stay!

Dogs in the wilderness

I had a wonderful time in Jo´s and Ali´s house, in the garden and especially with the three dogs. The dogs: Zak, Charlie and Daisy are really amazing: easy-going, playful and lovable, so everybody must love to spend time with them (not to forget: Pumpy, the cat). The house and garden are very beautiful - the ideal place for a relaxed stay to find some rest. Jo and Ali gave me a warm welcome, so I enjoyed every minute of my stay in their house. If you like the countryside, silence and nature, this is exactly the right thing for you. But I would recommand to come by car, as there´s scarcely any public transport, and also the wonderful area is worth being visited and discovered.

A friendly couple with adorable pets

Jo and Ali made us feel extremely welcome in their lovely home, and provided good information and contact details. The animals are all adorable and are a pleasure to look after. We would happily house-sit for them again.
