About this assignment

PET SITTING & HOUSE SITTING IN SOUTH-EAST SCOTLAND
DATES: Thursday 19th June - 3rd of July 2026

Our lovely cat Stan and his beautiful farm cottage need a little loving care whilst we're away for 2 weeks.

You must be a non-smoker, reliable, responsible, and of course love cats. Access to a car is is also essential. Yes, you really DO need a car here.

We just expect to find the house as clean and tidy as we left it.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Our cat Stan loves human company, so being a cat lover is very much an essential qualification.

He doesn't need much work though - keeping food and water topped up, daily treasure hunt (a.k.a. litter tray scooping) and, most importantly, playtime and cuddles every day.

He has had surgery to his eye which went very well, but it means he needs eye drops 2 times a day. He is very used to this and extremely laid back about it, so it's really easy to do.

There's a couple of pot plants to water, but that's about all.

What are the good features of the property and location

The area is absolutely stunning - close to the border, within a stone's throw of the Tweed valley and 20min from Eyemouth and the sandy beaches of South Eastern Scotland and Northumberland.

Holy Island is just a little way down the road. The cottage provides a perfect base to explore this little know beautiful corner of Scotland, as well as Northumberland. It takes just over an hour to get into Edinburgh.

There's unlimited high speed WiFi, a woodburner as well as central heating, a new kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine and everything else you need. A large UHD TV provides entertainment when you don't feel like sitting outside watching the stars.

A large garden with beautiful views, BBQ and deck is also here to enjoy.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

A car is essential as the location is quite rural with very limited public transport, and you would have no other way, for example, to get Stan to the vet in an emergency. Parking is limited to one or possibly 2 small cars.

Sorry the place is not suitable for children, and there's strictly no smoking in the house. Stan is a little timid, so no other pets are allowed.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

“ A lovely house sit “

To whom it may concern :) My husband and I had the distinct pleasure of house sitting for Gina and Martin recently and I want to share my overwhelming positive experience. From the onset both Gina and Martin made sure we had everything we needed. They welcomed us with a lovely meal and took the time to provide a comprehensive guide on the care of their home and most importantly their cherished cat Stan .Their feline companion Stan is truly a joy to be around, he has a playful yet gentle demeanour and taking care of him was not just a responsibility but an absolute delight ????. From our daily play sessions to the quiet moments where he’d find a cosy spot on our laps it is evident that he is a well loved and well behaved cat. Their home is a clean and comfortable inviting space. Their garden , which we often used to have our morning coffee ,shares amazing views of the Scottish boarders countryside. Our stay felt like a home away from home and we always felt at ease there. Everyday we explored the surrounding areas which are amazing. The Scottish border contains so much history. ! Gina and Martin ‘s kindness and the evident love they have for their home and Stan made this house sit experience very enjoyable. David and myself wishing them all the best and we do hope to look after Stan and their beautiful characteristic Cottage again in the future. Kind regards Sabine and David

Testimonial for Gina, Martin and Stan the cat

Gina and Martin and their handsome cat, Stan, live in a well appointed, warm, renovated terrace cottage in the Scottish Borders. They are surrounded by lovely fertile countryside and half a mile walk to the nearest small friendly village. The sunrises and sunsets are stunning from here. Stan was very easy to look after in the cottage which is very comfortable for two people. Our hosts left us clear instructions regarding taking care of Stan and taking care of the house and garden. The garden has a wee hidden “sitooterie” where you sit for a while enjoying a drink and watch the sunset over the fields. Gina and Martin were easy to contact and they kept in touch with us, always being available when any queries arose. We occasionally sent them photos of Stan and our adventures in the area. (Both of us being retired photographers). With our own vehicle we were able to tour around the local Borders near Coldstream, exploring this little known and interesting part of Britain. There is plenty to do and see, including nice walks and various historical attractions. It would be useful to have your own car. However, we did subscribe to the Pingo bus service which is on an ad hoc community bus route, available from the road outside the cottage. We know you will enjoy your stay here, as we did.
