About this assignment

We are looking for a trustworthy female single sitter, non smoker, to look after our cat and the apartment. The sitter will have her own bedroom.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Take good care of Prune the cat, feed her and play with her. She is 4 years old, playful but not cuddly, and she loves being independent (there is no catflap, so she would need to be let in and out). We have a cat door bell that rings when Prune wants to come in. Sitter needs to make sure that the cat stays indoors at night and/or during rainy days. Empty the litter box and the mail box. Maybe water some plants. Taking the garbage to the dump (short walk).

What are the good features of the property and location

A 2-bedroom apartment in Château-d'Oex, approx. 2 1/2 hours by train from Geneva Airport (good train connections).
Château-d'Oex is located in the french speaking part of Switzerland (Canton of Vaud) and yet very close to the border of the Swiss German speaking part (12km to Gstaad, Canton of Berne) with various opportunities for leisure (concerts, museums) and sport (hiking, biking, swimming, ski-ing etc).
High speed Wi-Fi, TV etc.
2 terrasses, stunning views.
The house is located at the end of a dead-end-street, i.e. in a quiet area, yet close to the shops, train station, restaurants etc.
A car is not necessary.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

If necessary, the dates indicated could be slightly altered, but once they are set, the sitter needs to be able to comply with the set dates, and to keep in contact whilst we are away. Sitter must love cats and does not mind cleaning the litter box etc. and taking the garbage to the place in the village (short walk).

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

House and Cat Sitting in the Swiss Alps

I was so fortunate to have the opportunity of house sitting for Maya in her picturesque village, looking after lovely Lola her friendly cat. After coming from a hot, dry, mostly flat country, it was amazing to see the high snow covered peaks of the Alps and the green valleys with their wildflowers. The famed Swiss efficiency didn't disappoint with spacious, clean trains always on time which made travelling around a real pleasure (make sure you investigate the options for rail passes). Walking trails are well signposted with lots of options to explore on foot. Maya is a generous host who provided lots of local information about this friendly village. This house sit is at the top of my favourite's list.

A cozy, quiet spot with a dream kitty

I sat for Maya’s cat, Lola, for two weeks in June ‘22. The two bedroom apartment is very cozy and the outdoor spaces very comfortable. Lola was a perfect lady! She never, ever demanded anything, but waited patiently to be freed, let outside, whatever. She is the easiest cat I have ever known! It made for a delightfully relaxing stay. Maya’s a lovely Swiss woman who speaks multiple languages. She’s completely organized and has everything I needed in her home. The town of Château-d’Oex is a short walk from the apartment, with restaurants, a bakery, specialty shops and a large grocery store (Coop) which is open 7 days a week! The mountains are easily accessible and the train station is a short walk away. I highly recommend this housesit!
