About this assignment

We need to find a loving, caregiver for our lovely Goldendoodle. This journey we are off to Michigan on the Lake Michigan circle tour of 100+ lighthouses in 4 states. We then go to Virginia for 10 days.

We are looking for someone to take care of our Goldendoodle Leia, while we are in Michigan and Virginia from May 17th thru June 4th. She likes to be walked at the park located at the end of our quiet little cul-de-sac in Oregon City, Oregon. Other than that, keeping the hummingbird feeders stocked with sugar water ensures the Anna's Hummingbirds will continue to be our regular guests all year long. If you are an avid photographer or videographer you will not be disappointed in these lovely little hummingbirds.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

The responsibilities involved are:
Caring for Leia by feeding and walking her 1-2 times per day, barring bad weather. Feeding her snacks 1-2 per day and giving greet attention throughout a given day. She does love to be petted and she is so soft and generally people like petting her. We hold her close to our bodies when people (mainly children) want to pet her, while we are a walk about. Mostly this occurs in the park at the end of our block. We just want to prevent her from wanting to rear up to say hi to her new friends. Nearly every human is a friend to her. Dogs are another story as she likes the big non-aggressive type and isn't a fan of the small ankle biters that like to just growl or bark.

Maintaining the cleanliness of our the house and yard, especially the driveway, since it angles to the house. Sometimes heavy rains come throughout the year and cause a backup at the small drain. Anyhow, this rarely happens, but will likely hot happen if the driveway is blown once per week with the blower.

What are the good features of the property and location

We live on a quiet cul-de-sac in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. The park at the end of our street is probably the best park in Oregon City, with great walking paths, play areas, and soccer and baseball fields and it has a stream that runs through the center. 50-100 Mallard Ducks are regular inhabitants all year round. We are situated in the Willamette Valley just 15 miles from Portland, an hour and a half from Mount Hood and two hours from the amazing Oregon Coast. We consider Oregon one of the top 10 states in the country and love what it has to offer. The food and drink scene is again in the top 5 with 1,000 breweries and 700 wineries! We have some of the best craft beers in the country and our Pinot Noir is some of the best in the World! We have a lovely little winery (Kings Raven Winery) just 5 miles from our house and the view from the outdoor seating area is stunning! So, feel free to check it out on weekends 12-5pm.

We are 90 minutes from Mount Hood and 120 minutes from the Oregon Coast! We live in the Willamette Valley, we have lovely waterfalls, scenic trees and coastal areas in Oregon. We have Crater Lake, the only National Park in Oregon...a must see. It was rated the #1 National Park in the U.S.!

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is a 19 day assignment :

In addition, we have a car (manual) that can be used during your assignment, to explore the area whenever you like. We have a automatic truck that can be used for kayaking. Be aware, the truck's a gas guzzler and needs at least 1/2 tank of regular gas to get to the nearest river of lake to drop in.

If you are going to the beach, please bring Leia because she loves the beach....and even stays out of the water, other than her feet. She's funny and thinks the water is somehow going to get her.

Leia is an 8 year old Golden Doodle who loves to be pet and will groan with approval when you rub her ears, head, neck and especially her belly. She loves people and acts like she is a neglected pup, just to get a rub down and another cookie or 3. She is a picky eater and loves a little water, tuna juice gravy, or broth atop her dry kibble for dinner time. She eats breakfast and dinner when in the mood and likes to have different types of dry food occasionally. Keeping her water dish full is always important, as she's drinks a lot.

Anyhow princess Leia is a great dog, but of course we are biased. We've met lots of other dogs and we do think she's royalty...hence the name.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Testimonials

Princess Leia

We had a wonderful time with Princess Leia! She’s such a sweet, sensitive, and joyful personality, who greeted us every morning for a tummy rub. Loved her walks. Upon our arrival Mark and Risa made us feel at home, and we really appreciated their thoughtfulness. Very kind and loving people. Their community was peaceful, less than five minutes to a neighborhood park. Also there are great woodland trails, an interesting quaint downtown with some surprising historic sites, and a river walk with views of the falls. Leia was a Joy! We would highly recommend this housesit, and very happy to have spent time getting to know Mark, Risa and Leia.
