About this assignment

I am looking for a dog lover wanting a small-town, Hawaii sitting experience. You’ll have a car to explore the Big Island.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

I have a 4 year old mixed breed puppy who is very friendly. She needs a daily walk, play time and as much love/attention as you can give, along with twice daily feeding. Maintain the house in clean condition. Water outdoor plants in pots as needed. Trash must be taken to transfer station minutes away.

What are the good features of the property and location

Big Island life with car included. Quiet, small town Hawaii experience within 15mins drive of great snorkeling at Mahukona. Local supermarket and weekly produce market. 25 mins drive from Waimea where there are a variety of restaurants, shops and other services. Daytrips or half day trips to Big Island attractions including Kohala coast beaches, kona, Hilo, and volcanoes National Park.
Home is classic Hawaii plantation style - 3 bedrooms (one currently used as office) and 1-1/2 baths.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

This is not Waikiki! Quiet, local Hawaii - set in the beauty of the Kohala mountains. Perfect for relaxing, unwinding and for those who can work anywhere.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

A Dream Homeowner

We had a wonderful experience house sitting for Janet and Mako in beautiful Kohala. Janet is an outstanding home owner and host. She was easy to communicate with and prepared a detailed book with instructions about her home, her dog Mako and suggestions for sites to see on The Big Island. She generously allowed us to spend a couple of days with her before and after the sit which was a treat for us. So fun for us to get to know her! Mako is a good boy and fun to spend time with. Taking him for walks in amazing places in Kohala suggested by Janet was a fun way to see the area. Janet's home is a cool plantation house located in a nice neighborhood close to the towns of Hawi and Kapaau. We found the people of Kohala to be kind and welcoming. We would recommend a house sit for Janet to anyone and would love to sit for her again.
