About this assignment

A mature person or couple who loves animals and will enjoy our 2 cats. We hope to find someone who will see staying at someone else’s home as free accommodations or a break from their own home setting. We need people who don’t mind pets sleeping with them.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Feeding cats and scooping 2 litter boxes daily, brushing pets, and depending on season and length of stay: some light work like vacuuming (our cat sheds a lot), mowing grass and snow removal.

What are the good features of the property and location

We have a lovely 16 year old home with a fenced yard near the edge of Medicine Hat with lots of walking paths and views nearby. Lots of wild deer and bunnies all around. Medicine Hat is a desert micro-climate with more days of sunshine than any other city in Canada. In summer we have lots of hot weather. ( mid to high 30’s). In winter, weather is quite unpredictable ranging from Chinooks (warm winter winds with temps well above 0) to extreme cold as low as -25.
In our home we have a fully equipped kitchen, garage with a space for your car, 3 TVS with cable, and streaming services. We have central heating and AC, and two gas fireplaces. In the back yard there is a covered deck, gas grill, and plenty of outdoor furniture. There is a lovely golf course very close. The “Hat” as it’s known has about 68,000 people (large enough for a Costco), and is about 2.5 hours from Calgary and another 1.5 hours to Banff.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

We need people who love pets. The cat (Sasha) is mainly indoor and very calm: about 11 years old. We just rescued another cat (Allie), who is 6-7 months old. So far she’s doing well integrating with the other pets. The dogs (Bailey and Zoe) are 5 years old but will not be here for this sit. I leave detailed instructions about care and handling.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Great hosts, lovely home, cute kitties

We recently completed our second house-sit for Gail and Pat. They are warm, friendly folk who are easy to sit for. We would definitely go back again. Their home is comfortable, well-equipped, and straightforward to manage. It is located in a quiet suburban area with ready access to walking and biking trails. All necessities are a short drive away. Their two cats are a joy to be with. And while we've not (yet) had the pleasure of looking after the two small dogs, they would be no problem. There are clear written instructions for house and animals, and they are always available to answer any questions, or just to stay in touch. Highly recommended!

Great home, lovely kitties, and really nice owners

Our time at Gail & Pat's Medicine Hat home was relaxing and easy. Their home is comfortable, and the location is very close to many walking/biking trails near the South Saskatchewan River. We looked after their two adult cats, who were both sweet, and easy to watch over. Our hosts were very welcoming and flexible. Communication was clear, and they were always readily available to answer questions, or just to chat with. We would house sit for Pat & Gail again, and highly recommend them to others.
