About this assignment

We are looking for a clean, responsible small dog lover who will make sure the backyard birds are taken care of as well as watering the indoor and outdoor plants.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

- Feeding and playing with Blue, a 14 lb chihuahua mix who loves laps and takes her Squirrel patrol job very seriously. Blue has breakfast, dinner, and a mid-day treat.
- Walk Blue on a leash at least once a day so she can smell where the neighbor dogs have been going.
- Feeding the backyard birds every other day.
- Adding water to the pond if the water flow stops.
- Watering the indoor and outdoor plants.
- Picking up the mail daily.
- Set the trash cans out on Tuesday night.
- Make sure windows are closed if our cleaning lady Zahra has visited. Our heating bill tripled during our last trip in January due to windows left open while we were away.
- Supervise Scott, our weekly yard maintenance man who comes on Sundays for 2 hours.
- Make sure the backyard gate is always CLOSED.
- Letting Orkin into the house for pest control

What are the good features of the property and location

Whole house high speed WIFI that extends into the yard. Gorgeous backyard with a 40 ft tall privacy hedge. 30 foot long water feature that has a waterfall at one end and a lovely patio shaded by a dogwood tree at the other end.

Located in a quiet cul-de-sac that is a short drive away from the NC Art Museum, 3 miles from Cary Downtown, 10 miles from Raleigh downtown.. A Blue Honda CRV is available for trips to the grocery store and local adventures.

For entertainment, you will enjoy a power lift chair with infinite settings while you watch your choice of Amazon Prime, Netflix, Peacock, Paramount+, or PBS Masterpiece on our 45 inch High Definition TV. Blue will want to snuggle with you on the chair or the leather couch.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Our dog was in foster care for close to 3 years and prefers laps to her own bed. She never messes in the house unless there is a loud storm going on. Then she can use her pee pad near the back door and next to the toilets.

Blue is about 6 years old and came to us on Feb 4, 2023. She must not be allowed anywhere but the inside of the house and the fully fenced backyard. There is a doggy door to the fenced yard. Blue takes her Squirrel Police job very seriously and will run in and out all day.

She is very good at escaping out the front door so be very aware of where she is BEFORE you open the door. She may sleep on the bed but only in her own dog bed. You have the option of banning her to the floor in her own bed. Blue is allowed on the chairs and couches.

If you are on an all-day adventure, it is OK to give Blue her mid-day treat before leaving but try to be back by 6pm for her dinner.

We fly home on June 12 and expect to arrive late in the afternoon. We prefer you to stay until we get back to the house unless other arrangements have been made ahead of time.
