About this assignment

I’m off to Australia to visit my son, daughter-in-law and grandkids. They emigrated in 2020 so I did not get to see them for 2 years due to Covid. My first visit was in January 2022, I put the boys (dogs) in home boarding and although well looked after, they came back exhausted and extremely skinny - nervous energy and not sleeping, which is what they do a lot of the time. That is why I need a sitter. It’s a dead end street with lovely neighbours so if you ever need help, they will be happy to oblige. I am only going for a short visit this time, as I have actually been able to get Christmas off and spend it with them. I am flying out on 22 Jan so very happy to meet before you take over, if you want to come on 21st, so you can see my home and meet the boys. I can give you a tour of the local area and you can come on a dog walk to see where we go.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

At some point around 7.30am a morning walk for around an hour. There is a beautiful National Trust area about 15 mins walk away where you can let them off the lead for a good run. In the afternoon between 3 & 4pm they just need a lead walk for about half a hour. Or you can do it the other way round. Feed them after each walk and fresh water once a day.
It is preferable if you have a uk driving license, but not a necessity as there is good local transport. On the days where I can, I will arrange for a dog walker to take them mid morning so you only need to do 2 lead walks for half hour. Only other task is to please have the house clean and tidy for when I get home and to enjoy your stay

What are the good features of the property and location

A 3 bedroom semi-detached chalet bungalow. River is a beautiful village in Dover where you can find beautiful walks across Kearsney Abbey and the Trust in nearby Temple Ewell. Dover town is close enough to enjoy all the amenities and facilities on offer as well as Dover Priory railway station with its fast links to London. It’s close to Dover Seafront, Dover Castle and only 20 mins away from Folkestone’s creative Quarter. There are security cameras outside the property. There is parking for 3 cars. There is one double bedroom and one single bedroom for your use.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Need to be happy to look after 2 lurchers, fit and enjoy walking up hill and down dale and preferably have experience with this breed. Be happy to look after the home and that’s it.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Lucher housesit

I've have just spent the most wonderful 4 weeks looking after two beautiful lurchers, Bailey and Zuko. These two are so well trained, obedient to calls and whistles when out walking in the fields, woods, around the village and in the local park. They are very social dogs, super relaxed around other dogs. It's been an absolute joy to have been the carers of them. Yvonne was very well prepared with all the dogs' meals and treats. I would totally recommend any sitter in future to look after the boys. Just superb, I'll miss them!
