About this assignment

We are looking for a dog savvy, pet lover. Someone who has experience with anxious dogs and likes to walk. But really we are just looking for someone that can bond with him and make him feel comfortable while we are away. He prefers the company of female people, and is more likely to feel comfortable with them.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We are looking for someone to walk and feed the dog 2x a day. Be around the home a bit, so that he is not left alone for long periods. We have a few house plants that would also require sporadic watering.

What are the good features of the property and location

This is the ideal location for anyone that loves the outdoors, hiking, surfing, wildlife viewing and storm watching. We live within walking distance of the wild pacific trail, many small rocky beaches, as well as most of the amenities in town. We live a short drive to the pacific rim national park, with ample beaches and hiking trails.

We are in a moblie home, which is smaller than a big house, but cosy, with everything you need. There will be a bedroom set aside for you, a full bathroom, laundry and ample cooking facilities, including a big sink and dishwasher for washing up.

Our town is in a rainforest. Come expecting some rainy days. Though we do get good stretches of sunny days too. Our climate is usually milder than elsewhere in Canada, with a good part of the rain occurring in the winter months.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Pancho is 4 years old, we rescued him from Mexico as a puppy. He still has some anxiety and can be reactive to the things that scare him, through mostly he will go and hide. Because of this he is a on leash dog. He needs someone that can take charge, but also offer him kindness. He takes a bit to warm up to people, but food is the short cut to his heart. He is a medium sized dog, quite strong for his size. He will pull on the leash when he spots cats, deer and certain dogs, so it is important to have a firm hold. He can be quite nervous and is spooked by big trucks and motorcycles, whistles and sometimes umbrellas and people in hats. Inside the home he feels safe and is fairly relaxed. He generally enjoys naps on his chair and watching cats at the window.
He does get along with some other dogs, and has been happy to have a sitter with a dog friend in the past. If this is the case, It would be up to the sitter to make sure the dogs meet and get along beforehand.

We would cover the housing but request that the sitter pay for excess electricity charges, if the use goes far beyond what is expected. basically if you’re mining bitcoin or something…expect to pay the excess charge. If you’re just living here with normal heat, lights and laundry, there will be no cost.

Can I bring my own pets?

Yes
Restrictions: We will consider another dog. No cats, un-neutered males or puppies
