Looking for reliable animal lover to look after our small animal menagerie in Ojochal, southern Costa Rica, this July. You get to stay in a beautiful open house, plus access to a 4x4 vehicle.
Responsibilities will include looking after
1x border collie
1x small tico dog
6 x goats
2 x pig
lots of ducks/chickens, 2 x peacocks and 5x guinea fowl
The farm is self-contained and needs modest up-keep throughout the day, such as feeding and watering the animals. Making sure animals are safely locked up at night, and releasing them into the farm area in the early morning.
Walking, playing with dogs on our 6acre property.
Our site is in downtown Ojochal. Property is fairly large and other people may be living on the property at the same time. The responsibility will be to look after the animals only. You will get a very nice 2 bedroom private house to live in.
All our animals are super friendly and tame, but prior experience looking after different farm animals like goats, pigs and high energy dogs is preferred.
Yes
Restrictions: Dogs that are well trained and won't chase free roaming birds or farm animals are ok.
Testimonials
Wonderful people and animals in paradise!
I had the absolute pleasure of house sitting for this family for a month, and I cannot recommend them highly enough as hosts. From the very beginning, their communication was clear, thoughtful, and incredibly welcoming. What truly stood out was how thoroughly they prepared for every possible scenario. They provided an exhaustive and well-organized contact list that covered everything—from practical contacts like vets and mechanics to thoughtful touches like local recommendations, community events, and even neighbors. I felt supported not just in caring for their home, but also in feeling connected to the area. They went above and beyond to make me feel included, adding me to local group chats and sharing invitations and activities happening in the community. It was clear they genuinely wanted me to enjoy my time there, not just fulfill responsibilities. It's also incredibly clear, if you meet anyone as an extension of them, how well loved and respected they truly are in their community. Their kindness was evident from the moment I arrived—despite my bus arriving significantly delayed, they warmly welcomed me late in the evening with nothing but patience and generosity. That level of care continued throughout my stay. This was more than just a house sit; it was an experience rooted in trust and genuine connection. I would happily sit for them again and again and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a thoughtful, organized, and truly kind family to work with. Pura vida embodied!
