This coming May/June I am planning to go to Germany for about 3 weeks. I have a lot of workaway experience with people who cared for my pets for short amounts of time, but with workaway sometimes it is hard to find people who want to / feel able to stay here by themselfes, so I signed up here to find experienced house and petsitters and be able to travel without concern and I hope the right match will write me a message!
I prefer a couple or 2 friends ( or a single person who is already used to living in Mexico or a Latin American country) , some basic spanish is needed as the neighbors don´t speak English.
Looking for responsible people (well I think, nobody here will be looking for someone irresponsible ;-)...) who will look after my property as if it were their own.
Experience with active dogs is a plus.
Flexibility, positive thinking and ability to improvise and being prepared for new experiences is also a good trait to have when living in Mexico and makes being here more fun.
The dogs are probably the most time-consuming responsibility, as they love extended walks, where you can play fetch or hide-and-seek with them or teach them anything you might perhaps like. They are healthy and fun to be with, but if they are not taken for regular walks, they will start digging holes in the garden or do naughty stuff like that.
Also take care for 3 cats and
water the plants in the garden, keep the house tidy, just so I find it as I left it, when I come back.
My place is a nice cozy house in a beautiful suburb of Oaxaca. It has a fully equipped kitchen, a nice roof terrace and a small garden with some shady trees, lots of plants.
15 years ago we built it from scatch and put a lot of love in it, so I would really love to have housesitters who can appreciate this, even though it is not perfect.
I get along well with the neighbors around and will introduce the housesittes to them so that they can help if there are any questions.
The city of Oaxaca (downtown is 7 kms south of where I live) is a quite well-known colonial tourist destination and thus offers a lot to see, visit and do.
Busses run downtown regularly every 20 minutes directly from very close to the house, but only until 8:30 pm or so.
There is a market 3 times a week and a nicely assorted supermarket within walking distance.
My house is on a hill, in a hilly environment... so wherever you walk, it implies climbing and descending ...
Consider the climate: the hottest months are April/ May - hot (up to 38 degrees centigrade) and dry. Dog walks are usually best before 9am.
Summer is not as hot as you may think, it is rainy season and everything is fresh and green and growing, actually, this is the season when my region is most beautiful.
Consider that Mexico is a quite loud country and be prepared to hear music, fireworks, playing children, happy neighbors quite often around here.
If we get along well and you would like to stay longer or come before I actually leave, you are welcome to my house for more time than my absence, as there is enough space and I usually enjoy company.
No, sorry.
