Short term (1 wk) pet & house sitters, October '25, Centre-Val-de-Loire, France

About this assignment

We are looking for mature, reliable dog lovers to look after our 2 dogs, three hens, house & garden for 14 - 20 October 2025.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

We are looking for a dog lover and spouse/partner who would like to discover a little bit of the Berry region.
We live in the countryside but only 15 minutes by car from two small towns and 30 minutes from the larger town
of La Châtre (36).
We have two dogs and three hens.
Newt is a female Spaniel, 12 years old. Shy and a little afraid of strangers at first but not for too long. ?She is happy and lively when she is out for a walk. She is a little deaf.
Benji is a young male (neutered) Australian Shepherd who will be 2 years old on 6 October.
Benji is affectionate, playful, energetic and quick to learn. He is very obedient and adores to play and
interact with people or just lay on the sofa next to you and sleep.
The dogs walk with us every day in the morning and afternoon/evening. There are places to walk from our house, without the need of a car, and
we have a very large garden where Benji likes to play, running after balls.
We also have three hens who are fed once each day. They will need to be let out of their coop each morning & locked inside the coop each evening (the coop is inside a secure enclosure which needs to remain locked at all times).

Our house is on the border where three departments meet - Le Cher, La Creuse & L’Indre.
Boussac - (with it's Chateau de Boussac) : 15 mins by car
Les Pierres Jaumâtres : 20 mins by car
(et le restaurant, Le Chalet des Pierres Jaumâtres)
La Châtre - with a théâtre, cinéma & museum : 30 mins by car
Guéret - with it's huge, beautiful forest & stunning views from atop the Monts de Guéret : 40 mins by car
Local winery for tours & tastings - Domaine viticole local à Châteaumeillant : 20 mins by car

We are currently renovating our house. The master bedroom with en-suite bathroom will be completed in the coming weeks. On the ground floor there is a fully functional temporary kitchen, a living room with sofas and a television, and a bathroom.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

References are required (if not from other house sits then at least personal reference(s) )
Certificate(s) of police check(s) is/are required.
Own transport will be needed.

Can I bring my own pets?
