About this assignment

We are looking for a reliable, confident person/couple/family who enjoys animals and nature while being close to a medium university town. We have really nice neighbors who like a chat, especially with foreigners

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Looking after the property, feeding the animals (dog, three cats, three chickens, two sheep, two donkeys), walking the dog, watering the tomato/chillie plants. Also, the donkey/sheep shed needs regular cleaning requiring, which means you will get a bit dirty. They are all friendly, but you need to make sure they do not take off.

What are the good features of the property and location

Our house is spatious and at least 250 years old. We have modernized it so the charme of age comes with modern living. We are just one hour away from Frankfurt airport and you do not need a car to get here or around. Bikes will do if you do not mind a few hills. Two supermarkets are just 3.5 km away and the medium sized university town of Gießen is around 10 km away. Our place is in a small hamplet 500 m from the next small village, surrounded by meadows and forest. A nice hideaway from the hustles and bustles of life.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Animals and garden require reliable daily care. They all need their love, too. The donkey/sheep shed needs cleaning every few days if you have trouble wearing rubber boots to clean the shed you may not consider applying. The next club and bar are 10 km away and I am not sure of their quality... partying may be somewhat difficult here.

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Nice country estate outside of town

We had the most amazing experience house sitting for Annette and Philipp on their beautiful country estate. While close to the town and all the shops, we really enjoyed the incredibly quiet and dark nights with no light pollution. We haven't had such good sleep in a long time. The walks in the woods were a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of city life and the biggest dog we've ever seen, Frida, quickly became our loyal companion. She would always join us on our everyday walks, though she can be as stubborn as a donkey about the direction she wants to take. But she's a loving soul, enjoying attention very much. She would follow us around the house all day, seeking a way to get a little cuddle. The cats were equally delightful, always ready for a snuggle and bringing us various gifts right from the beginning, in the form of trophy mice they captured. Donkeys and sheep each have very unique personalities, but feeding and interacting with them was also a lot of fun; and chickens helped keep the fridge full. Taking care of the house and animals might seem like a challenge from the description, but in fact it was very easy and was not that much time consuming. Annette and Philipp provided us with clear instructions and guidelines before we even got there, ensuring we had all the information we needed to properly care for the house and their beloved pets. The communication with them was very friendly and easygoing. We highly recommend anyone considering house sitting for them to jump at the chance. You will be rewarded with an unforgettable adventure, surrounded by the beauty of nature. And if you hear someone "getting murdered" outside at night, do not worry. You just didn't feed the donkeys enough in the evening and they are letting you know.
