Seeking responsible, animal-loving individual, couple, or small family to enjoy the peace and quiet of our beautiful, spacious country home in Ithaca, NY, and care for our pets from July 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024 (dates are flexible).
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Loving care of four chickens, three fish tanks, and two sweet indoor cats, along with house and garden care. Feed, cuddle, and play with cats, and keep their litter boxes clean. Feed chickens and fish. Keep house clean and gardens watered.
What are the good features of the property and location
Full kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms, wireless internet, washer/dryer, living room, sunroom, finished basement with futon, ping pong table, elliptical exercise machine, 2 kayaks, deck with grill, screened catio/gazebo. Outdoors, enjoy our 40 acres with swimming pond, fields and forests, hiking trails, veggie garden, flowers, songbirds galore, and gorgeous views!
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
You'll need a car to get to town. Shopping and Cornell University are 15 minutes away. Ithaca is a great town with lots going on, and a lovely place to spend the summer!

A lovely summer house-sit in the Finger Lakes region
Care-taking and house-sitting for Steve and Elissa this past summer was a beautiful experience for our whole family. Their house was a generous size and very comfortable for the two and a half-month period. Their cats are sweet and sociable, the aquariums a delight to view and tend to, and the chickens were fun to visit and generous in their laying! The garden wonderfully supported many of our meals, and the forest and meadows with walking paths provided such a serene and lovely setting to be in. It was a joy to be able to join in with Steve and Elissa in their devoted cultivation of this place and its creatures. We learned so much and were inspired toward greater sensitivity to all creatures and the earth in the midst of our time here. In regard to communication, Steve and Elissa were stupendous and considerate, giving very clear and helpful guidance before and during the house sit. They were swiftly responsive if we had any questions, and made sure we had everything required for our own needs and the caretaking of their home and pets. We additionally enjoyed the exploration of the Finger Lakes region, which turned out to be more beautiful than we could have imagined. It was a great experience all-around, and we would love to house sit here again.
