About this assignment

Hello, I'm hoping to find someone kind and responsible who will care for my beloved cats and home while I'm away from 13-21 August 2026.

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Mostly feeding two cats, and giving Princess Toffee Pavlova her thyroid medication (which is easily done), and enjoying your stay in the beautiful Nantlle Valley here in Eryri/Snowdonia, Wales, where there are plenty of good walking routes and scenic outdoor activities nearby.

What are the good features of the property and location

The house is situated in Talysarn, in the beautiful Nantlle Valley on the footsteps of the Eryri/Snowdonia national park. There is a Co-operative supermarket 10-15 minutes' walk away in Penygroes, and a regular bus service to Caernarfon and Bangor. The house is comfortable, with one double bedroom, a studio with a double sofa bed, a piano, a potter's wheel, and a lovely terraced garden with a view of the Nantlle Valley and Yr Wyddfa/Mount Snowdon. All the usual amenities are present - washing machine, WiFi, cooker, central heating, etc. Furthermore, there is plenty of good walking nearby, and many beautiful places to explore.

What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment

Whether they are available for the duration of my stay away and whether they feel able to feed and mind two cats. That's about it. Let's talk!

Can I bring my own pets?

No, sorry.

Beautiful rural wales with two great cats

Dylan and Katyas home is a small quarrymans cottage with beautiful views, close to the coast and some great countryside. There is a bus service about a mile or so away but your own transport would help. The highlight is the cats of course. two lovely survivors. Mad Catter is a big softie, Toffee is more wary but also very affectionate once she gets to know you.

Wonderful North Wales escape

A hugely enjoyable and rewarding housesit. The train journey getting to Portmadoc was so picturesque, then an equally charming bus ride to the village itself. The house is a treat, bijou with astonishing views at the front and a delightful wild garden to the rear that attracts all manner of bees and birds. It is steep mind so those with mobility issues will struggle. My host was very kind and we chatted on WhatsApp before I arrived so I could see how it was at his place. He also sourced a bicycle for me and this was so useful to get to the local shop. There were myriad books in the house with a bias towards Russian literature. WiFi was good and worked best downstairs. The cats Pavlova and the Mad Catter were great. Pavlova was affectionate and followed me around all the time. MC more independent. Both esurient of course! I was so fortunate with the weather: it was glorious. I had plenty of walks nearby, for example there's a retired slate mine about one mile up the road which is fascinating and beautiful. Finally I took the bus to Portmeirion about a 45 minute ride plus 20 minute walk. If you are from overseas and don't know about this amazing Italianate caprice then read up on it and know that you can get there easily from here. A super housesit, I was very lucky to be chosen! :))

Mr Dylan Thomas in Talysarn, North Wales

Dylan was a perfect gentleman, picking me up from the bus station, carrying my bag, and take me to his lovely clean and tidy home. He gave me clear instructions and directions prior to and during the housesit. He also put me in contact with his parents in NZ, in case he is not contactable. Princess Toffee and Cutter, (did I spell that right?), were great and easy to look after and very affectionate too. Talysarn, not far from Mount Snowdon is a great area for long walks, one of which is the Slate Trail. And historical towns like Caenarfan, and Porthmadog. Perfect homeowner, lovely cats, lovely cosy home. It was a pleasure to be there.
