We are looking for a responsible live-in pet and property caretaker for almost 2 weeks beginning August 21st and ending September 1st or 2nd. References required.
This is a lovely home in the college town of Charlottesville, located about 15 miles east of the Blue Ridge and 70 miles west of Richmond.
Free room, utilities, and wi-fi in exchange for caretaking duties. Minor outdoor yard and garden work. Water the outdoor plants and take care of 3 cats.
PLEASE NOTE:
No Pets.
No Kids.
No Smoking Inside the house.
No Drugs.
Alcohol In Moderation, Please
Charlottesville is easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and Shenandoah National Park for outdoor activities, including many hiking trails.
It is renowned for its historic sites, beautiful parks and waterways, activities, vibrant arts and culture, excellent shopping opportunities, and a multitude of wineries and breweries.
The house is located in the friendly Fry's Spring area of Charlottesville which is a mostly residential neighborhood in the southwest corner of the city, close to UVA.
It is a spacious ground-level home surrounded by flower gardens. Towels and bed linen provided. Washer and dryer in home. Strong high-speed internet and utilities are included and paid for by the home owner.
We have recently had a house merger, and there is some conflict between the cats. We (to this date) have not been able to integrate the new cat with the two original cats. Therefore, the house is divided with the new cat on one side and the other 2 cats on the opposite side of a closed door.
The house sitter(s) will need to alternate activities between these two sections of the house to help all cats have their time and attention.
(Please see the references which were from before I moved to Charlottesville and the job was on a farm)
No, sorry.

Charlottesville treasure
Overall and easy assignment as I was provided thoughtful written and verbal instructions for the care of the three cats, including once-daily medication for one cat; watering the garden and gathering packages and mail. Deb and Carrie's home is on a quiet street in Charlottesville with lovely gardens. The inside of the home is clean, well-organized and has a lovely aesthetic. When I arrived to house sit in late August, it was early in the acclimation process of one cat, a fine gentle soul named Jimmy (Jim), joining the household of two cats, Coco and Scooter. Scooter's name suits him purr-fectly: his Zoomies are a delight to behold; yet he also would curl up in my lap and nap and spent some time with the newest arrival one on one. As Deb explained before I was offered the house sit, Coco was to be kept separated from Jim as she had not yet warmed to his presence. This was easy to do as there are doors between the front, middle, and rear of the home. No surprises and I was able to explore some of Charlottesville, including historical sites, a visit to a peach orchard and an afternoon at the nearby Boar's Head resort. I highly recommend this assignment and would gladly house sit again.

Cat, Ducks & Appalachians
We ‘sat’ for Deb for 2 weeks in February, 2024, looking after her cat – Jim Richard, & 3 ducks – Ralph & ‘The Girls’…our first time caring for ducks. This sit offers opportunity for an active stay – over & above care of Jim & the ducks – with optional chores such as collecting &/or burning chicots [of which there is steady supply], raking… Jim Richard is a delightful cat; despite his preference to not be picked up, he enjoys attention…petting, playing. And the ducks are quite easy to tend; especially interesting is the dedication the drake – Ralph – brings to his role as guardian/protector. Deb provides clear direction re all tasks & is readily available by e-mail/text/phone when needed. Her home is a spacious ‘hobby farm’ home, relaxed, comfortably furnished, & well equipped with appliances. Back-up is available on-site with Deb’s close friends/neighbours, offering assurance in emergencies, none of which we encountered. Bonus: access to the hills of the Appalachian range…& the Blue Ridge Parkway is a 5 minute drive away. David & Cindy Lou Canada

Very friendly and accommodating owner of a chilled cat and 5 ducks!
Deb really was a wonderful hosts allowing me come a few days early and stay with her to be shown the layout and duties required. She showed me how to prepare Jim’s food and how to feed the ducks. I was shown the plants / berries that required watering and how to stop the deer eating these and the young willow trees. The property was is in quiet area with the 'Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia' in the background. I would certainly sit for her again in the future!
