About this assignment

We are looking for a responsible, quiet, and nature-loving couple (non-smokers) who will treat our home and our two dogs with the same care and respect as their own.
This position is a dream for retirees or digital nomads who appreciate tranquility and a stunning natural environment.
Since we value a smooth transition for our dogs, we would love to welcome you around 1–2 pm on your arrival day. We enjoy celebrating the handover with a shared dinner on our terrace to get to know each other and the pups.
English or German speakers are preferred; some Spanish is always a plus in Costa Rica!

What responsibilities are required of the house sitter

Your primary focus will be our two very happy dogs. They love their daily walks across our expansive 26-hectare property. Beyond pet care, we ask that you keep the house tidy and organized.
There is a greenhouse that requires about 30 minutes of watering and light care daily.
You don't need to worry about the pool; our professional pool guy takes care of that.
Essentially, we want someone who enjoys "living" in the space while keeping everything running smoothly.

What are the good features of the property and location

We are located in a peaceful, secluded area, about 15 minutes from the paved road. The last 6km are unpaved; while a 4x4 is not strictly mandatory, it is highly suggested for comfort and ease of travel. A car is recommend to get around. We had house sitters without a car though.
There is a small village with a basic mini-market nearby, but major shopping and nightlife are further away. This is a place for people seeking "Pura Vida" and tranquility—if you need city lights and busy streets, this might not be the right fit for you.

Independent caretaking for a modern house, veggie garden and dog

Ivo and Bea invited us to sit their place during the absence of the family for 3 weeks in order to take care of their house, the dog and the vegetable garden. Their house was newly built and mostly complete, featuring large open spaces, a great kitchen and large outdoor terrace area. It has solar panels and a backup battery system, so you are not really bothered by the occasional Costa Rican power cuts. It has a nice cosy pool to cool off which is great for nightly star gazing as well! They also entrusted us with the care for the vegetable garden and plant nursery, which we enjoyed very much as we got to enjoy the harvested produce during our stay. The property is rather remote and large giving the possibility to enjoy nature with waterfalls, swimming in the creeks, wildlife and hiking right there on the spot. Bea and Ivo invited us over prior to the sit so we could get to know the house, the routines for the dog, care for the greenhouse and plant nursery, and all other specifics we needed for a good sit experience. Because they would not be reachable during their trip, they made sure we had all the info we needed. They are lovely no-nonsense people with a lot of drive and passion and great plans for the place, and it shows in the results they achieved already. They made us feel very welcome every time and have become good friends. To get to their remote sanctuary you will need to endure several kilometres of Costa Rican dirt road. Travel to the nearest city of San Isidro de el General is a bit of a journey and during the rainy season a 4wd vehicle may be necessary to reach their property. What you get for making the trip is surround hillside and mountain views, ever changing rolling cloud vistas, and a very peaceful environment with only some Tico neighbours in the distance. A lovely sit to be recommended.
