About this assignment
Love dogs, nature and snow - be loving to our doggies, and enjoy the snowy magical nature of the Norwegian countryside. Ideally you are someone who loves to get away from it all - here you will have no neighbours, just the moose living in the forest right by our door. Ideally you are someone who works from home, or on a holiday, so can spend lots of time with our doggies - one is out and about in the nature whole day, and she will be happy to accompany you if you fancy a walk in the forest. The other one is a real sweet needy couch potatoe - he needs lots of cuddles.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
Taking care of our dogs - feeding them and giving them love. No need to take them on walks since the cottage's garden is fully fenced in, they just need to be let in and out during the day. But if you wish, our adventurous shepsky would love to venture into the forest right by our cottage with you on walks - but it's totally optional, she has plenty of space to roam in the garden.
What are the good features of the property and location
If you wish to have a lovely pre-Christmas get away in a fully Christmas decorated, snowy Norwegian cottage with two friendly doggies, we believe you'll love it here. It is truly a magical pleace one hour away from Oslo and the airport. The cottage will come fully decorated for Christmas, and it is the perfect spot for an artist retreat. At night if the sky is clear you will see zillions of stars and plenty of chance for northern lights! The cottage is very cosy with two lovely fireplaces, high speed starlink internet, TV with streaming and gaming consoles, and a well-equipped kitchen.
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
The nearest town that has plenty of shops is 10 minutes by car. However we can help you and take you shopping with our car before we leave if you wish to stay in for the whole week!
Can I bring my own pets?
Yes
Restrictions: If they are friendly doggies, they are welcome to play and chill with ours :)

Beautiful property and dogs
It was a real pleasure to care for Nikoletts' dogs, they are very sweet. The land is very special here with a peaceful 32 acres right outside the door, it has a special energy. Nikolett and her husband couldn't have been more caring in how they welcomed us in prior to leaving for their trip. Everything was communicated well and the house has everything you need. Beautiful sit with 2 loving dogs
I thoroughly enjoyed housesitting for Niki and Shun-Chieh, their home is full of love, comfort and cosiness with plenty of opportunities to pamper yourself too! Their dogs are super friendly and loving, it was great going out with them to explore the land around the cottage. It's wonderful to have your own private slice of wilderness, including an enchanting forest with tree swings, a hill with a magnificent echo and a beautiful little lake! I could probably write an essay on all the great things about this house sit, but will suffice to say it is a truly magical place of peace and tranquility, made all the better by being home to the kindest, loveliest couple and their awesome dogs. I wouldn't hesitate to house sit for them again and hope to visit them in the future in any case!

Magical place and adorable dogs - and their parents!
We have been so impressed with this sit for many reasons but firstly from meeting Nikki and Shun-Chien. They are a simply delightful couple and very interesting and joyful to spend time with (they cooked for us on arrival). To be honest they are actually two of the kindest people we have ever met! They really made us feel that the house was our home while we were taking care of it and went out of the way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. The sit was primarily for Byron and Freya and they were truly wonderful to get to know. They are great friends and complimentary. Byron is a soft hearted, loving cuddle- dog that just wanted to be close and Freya a wild hearted, free spirited wolf dog that wanted to play! Both very respectful, gentle and contactful. We loved hanging out with them and really missed them when we had to go. The house is gorgeous - both charming and stylishly decorated (nice job Nikki) and very comfortable and we loved the massage chair, the sauna and wood burner, (thanks so much!). It is set in 34 acres of remote land and Nikki and Shun have worked so hard to reclaim much of it over the past year. They have uncovered beautiful spaces and unique eco systems, including a small lake (with boat), a little copse of fir trees that bestow a moment of complete stillness and calm, (try the swings!), a fairy circle and a meditation stone in a natural incline, circle. It’s a very special place and will only become more so. We totally recommend a sit here and meeting Nikki and Shun-Chein - and enjoy their generous and creative spirits - was alone enough to have travelled and the rest made it a joyful time. They also welcomed our two friends to come and stay without hesitation, so we were able to have a couple of days together which was wonderful! Nikki was an outstanding communicator and kept in great contact. She was grateful and especially supportive and generous when we had to pull together for an emergency. We felt part of the team/family and we very much hope to be back and to know them more!

There were three fantastic aspects about my experience serving as a house sitter for these hosts: 1., the hosts could not have been more kind or attentive about how to enjoy staying on their farm; they are respectful, patient, and thoughtful people devoted to ensuring that their sitters are comfortable; 2., the property. The serenity and beauty of the acreage cannot be conveyed adequately through pictures or zoom connections. All the stars at night and the adventurous walks during the day combine to provide an incredibly peaceful and restorative experience; 3., The wonderful two dogs. Freya and Lord Byron are Old Soul companions who offer kindness, curiosity and abundant love. I miss them greatly and hope to hug them again soon! This is a wonderful opportunity on beautiful property with fantastic hosts and two amazing dogs.

Private wild Mayo
We loved our weekend in Mayo. Nicolett welcomed us with a great tour of their land, wellies are a must. A lovely site with bog, a lake, small stream, rocky areas and a wooded area, its ideal for nature lovers. We really enjoyed our tramps through the site with the dogs roaming free. The dogs were a delight to manage. Freya is so intelligent and playful, Byron is more timid but so gentle and fast, watching them race and play was a delight. The house was very cosy and warm, we were lucky with the weather and even though there was wood and turf for the fire it was not required. We made full use of the massage chair and Sauna. Who needs an Hotel.
