About this assignment
Do you love cats and nature? This place is for you! Someone who can keep clean is a plus. I don't expect people to clean as I do, but it's important to remember a few house rules, the main one being to not wear outside shoes indoors. :)
My cat, Poppy, is the sweetest girl and loves absolutely everyone. She is quite social when not sleeping and will jump on your lap unannounced. I need someone who is willing to spend time with her: cuddles, occasional brushing and playing.
What responsibilities are required of the house sitter
The main responsibility is my cat: making sure she is fed, has water and affection. She enjoys being outside and unfortunately this place only has two small balconies, but if you see her wanting to go out, just please make sure she doesn't rip the mosquito net. These days she more calm and not desiring the outdoors so much.
I also have a few plants which are luckily very easy to take care of and considered "beginner" ones. They need to be watered sometimes and that's it (unless you see dead leaves, please pull them out and throw them away).
What are the good features of the property and location
The flat has everything: strong wifi (I work full-time from home, connection is via fibre -- whatever that means). Everything is electric powered, so no need to worry about gas running out. ;)
My house is the perfect place for those who want to be in the mountains (with some peace and quiet), but not too far from the city either!
I'm located in the heart of beautiful hiking trails (Los Cahorros is a famous one). This place is perfect if you are an avid hiker and want to time away from busy cities.
The village is full of life too. You can find live jazz/blues music at the local bar every Sunday evening. There is a pharmacy, food shops, cafe, bars, restaurants, hairdresser, organic shop, bakery and hardware shop...basically everything you need! Want more? There are yoga and pilates classes, too!
What does the house sitter need to consider before applying for this assignment
Are you fine with living in a village? Do you have a car? If you don't have a car, you can still manage to stay here. (I use the bus and taxis. I can provide you with local taxi numbers if needed.) Granada city is 15 minutes by car and 25 - 30 minutes by bus. The bus goes every hour, except on Sundays.
Despite the fact that this flat is in a village, a number of people here speak English. However, consider that a basic command of Spanish is beneficial, especially when going to the shop.

Very nice and easy sit with the one and only, most adorable Poppy!
We had the pleasure to take care of Poppy, one of the most cuddly cats we have taken care for so far, twice! We met Nika before she left for her 1st trip and we got the instructions to take care of Poppy and to keep her apartment clean. The apartment is a 2 bedroom apartment and and is easy to keep clean. It's in the center of Monachil with bars, restaurants, a small supermarket and bus stop all on short walking distance. Poppy is such a sweet and easy going cat. Very, very cuddly and the first time for us to walk with a cat on a leash. She just went outside for a short distance/time. Not every day, but approximately twice a week. We will post photos with Poppy on our website. Too cute! Because the apartment is in the center of Monachil village, we had plenty of starting points for hiking and road biking, which was great. Our first stay was for 1 week (first week of September) and our 2nd stay for 4,5 weeks (month October). We had beautiful summer weather during our 2 stays and we were able to go out after our work and on our days off. We had very pleasant communication with Nika and we were pleased to get a very clean apartment both times. Keeping it clean was also very easy. We also took care of the plants and they all survived :-) We recommend this sit definitely. It's a good place for remote workers and/or outdoor enthusiasts who are real cat lovers. Superb !!
1. The village. Quiet most of the time. If you like hiking you are able to enjoy this place. Sierra Nevada mountains and Granada city are not far away. 2. The flat. Simple, but comfortable. Cozy. And super clean! If you like reading - in English, you won't get bored. The building is quiet. Almost no noises. 3. The host. You will realize from the first moment that she is a good person. If you are committed to recycling consumer goods and sustainability, you can have interesting conversations... 4. The pet. Adorable. Poppy will accept you probably from the very first minute. She enjoys cuddles. Maybe even she will try to sleep with you. Lovely. Easy going. First time in my life that I walk a cat with harness. It's funny - also for people that you meet on the street in that situation !! Summarizing, sitting absolutely recommendable ! Tx, Nika.

Excellent house/cat sit in beautiful Monachil
My wife & I had a great time looking after Poppy in Nika's very clean & tidy apartment in Monachil, the village is situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, the hiking trails are awesome, and you can be in Granada city within a 1/2hr bus journey. Nika sent us a lot of information on looking after her adorable cat Poppy, and also on activities in the village. We can highly recommend Nika & Poppy to any future house sitters, and of course we would be delighted to return in the future.

Words are not enough to say how much we enjoyed Poppy, Nika (her mom) and Monachil. Poppy is super easy going, smart and loves to cuddle. The bond between Poppy and Nika is amazing as you get the feeling Nika really wants to give Poppy the best care and attention. She gives Poppy her time to play and interact with her despite her busy schedule. Poppy has captured our hearts and she is the best natured cat we have ever known. It was heartwarming to find her always waiting by the door when we came home. Talking about home, Nika's apartment is spotlessly clean, well equipped and well situated in Monachil, a gorgeous village, a short bus ride to Granada, a gorgeous city. Lovey cat, amazing experience and wonderful host!
Pet-sitting for Nika was an absolute pleasure! She was incredibly welcoming and Poppy (her adorable cat) made the experience all the more enjoyable. The location of her home was ideal, really close to Granada but without the noise and surrounded by nature. We spent around three weeks and felt at home all the time. Nika gave us clear instructions for Poppy and the house and was available for any other questions we had. We would definitely love to come back in the future!
